Just to get to know each other a bit better. I'd like to ask everyone... what do you do for a living NOW and what would you do if money weren't an issue?
I'm a dietitian (work for a hospital with occasional private clients) currently. Have been one for 5 years...my first and only career.
However, if money weren't an issue and I could switch careers with a snap of the fingers, here are some things I'd like to do:
1) Dog training
2) Dog photography
3) Doodle breeder (maybe someday...but too time consuming and pricey to start before I have kids or maybe even after!)
4) Stay at home tv watcher/book reader
5) Professional traveler with Clark and our doodles =)
What about you? What do you do now and what WOULD you do if you could do anything?
If I could, I would:
1) Open a dog friendly "dude ranch" with the best people and dog friendly activities and amenities.
2) Tropical resort tester
3) Landscape Architect
I am an Optician, We also own our AFH.
I would love to have a top end doggy hotel Chateau du Vair, or Chateau de Fideux. It would be the best dog hotel with reasonable prices for people who love their dogs. I already help train my friends and family dogs, but I would love to have a career out it.
With the hotel I would have a Doodle rescue, which knowing me would be an all dog rescue. I am sucker for a furry face.
If I won the lotto this is what I would do after my year of world travel with the pups.
I did win $500 with a rub off ticket when I was 18, it is what paid for Brian and my 1st apt. I was so happy. I had just turned 18 and wanted to move out.
Dreams do come true. My Dad was not the happiest for me. He wanted me home.
I am a doodle breeder, I am working on setting up my own dog training school and doggy spa.Hopefully I will be further along in 2009.
My dream if I was loaded would be to own acreage and and use my doods to help kids with problems.I think doods as therapy would be brilliant.
As of now I am a CNA at a Hospice House. But I am planning on going back to school for my LMT (message therapy).
If money were of no issue both Sam and I would stop working for a while, and haev a house built on a few acres...at least 8-10 acres. Not sure what I would do with the acreage...I would love to breed doods, goldendoodles...to be specific. But I would like to get into breeding even if I don't win the lottery! :) Just too expensive right now, and I can't provide the right environment at this point.
While we're waiting for it to be built, we would travel the world!! I want to go to London and Australia...he wants to go...everywhere else!
I'm sure Sam would go back to work after a few months, he would get bored.
Just want to thank you for the work you do. I lost my sister-in-law last friday. She was at a local hospice house and we cannot say enough about the amazing people that work there.
I am sorry for your loss, but so happy that you had a hospice staff to help your sister pass comfortably...and hopefully they also have a great family and friends support system...which most Hospice facilities do.
Luckily, money is not a factor in my deciding what to do... Both Judy and I are retired. I from the Navy after 32 years service and career in non-profit work after that and Judy from a 30+ year career as a nurse and a nursing professor at a local community college. We are certainly not rich but, are very comfortable.
We have bred show quality Maltese and have retired from that also because breeding is too demanding of time and restricts our freedom too much (there was always a new litter coming along when we wanted to do something else!).
I love dog photography and will (as soon as the weather cools down) start working with a local rescue center to photograph their dogs and cats so these animals will have a better chance of finding forever homes.
I am not a great dog trainer but, Holly is such an apt pupil that this is a lot of fun for both Judy and I. Holly has most of her basic obedience commands down pat and we will start more involved training as soon as the weather cools down. Holly hates the heat! Holly and I are scheduled for a therapy dog "Boot Camp" in December. I'd like to work with Holly in the Marine Corps base, Camp Pendleton, CA Hospital to help returning warriors who have been wounded or injured.
Most of my time now is taken up with our rather large yard (about an acre), playing with Holly and her Maltese friends (Holly and I swim every day) and working on getting better in Photoshop CS3 (unfortunately - every time I take a coffee break away from Photoshop - I have to be retrained). I also dabble in genealogy and of course surf the net. Doodlekisses is one of my favorite sites and I visit it several times each day.
Judy works with a non-profit organization (Assistance League) that specializes in assisting school age children with their basic school needs such as clothing and school supplies.
To tell you the truth, we both wonder how we ever found time to work....

I'm not sure...this is a hard question...I'd probably travel. Currently I stay at home and hubby works for HVAC place...I'd love to travel the world...but I'm not sure we could do that with a doodle????
Hmmmm, well if we hit Powerball first, DH would quit his job. :) We would be able to send DD to her outrageously expensive first choice college.
I wouldn't move, but I would buy a lake house here in Maine somewhere, and probably one on the ocean as well!!
I would donate a lot of money to our local school and to charity also, and I would donate my time as well. I've been a SAHM for 16 years, but I've cobbled together many PT jobs at the same time. Maybe I would get my master's degree just for the heck of it. And then I would sit in my writing studio in either my lake house, or my beach house, and I would write!!!! On a NEW laptop where the space bar doesn't stick!!! ;)
I currently work as a quality control administrator for a road construction company.
If money weren't an issue I would still like to work but I would be my own boss.
I think I would build a new home with a second doggie house to use as a daycare/rescue then I would proabably open a restaurant or some type of retail store to keep me busy on the slow days.
