Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

For the past month or so I have been checking websites for doodles that need rehomed. (Golden, Lab or Aussie) I have been talking to a breeder about a 11 week old puppy but I would really like to adopt. I must say that any of the doodles I have been interested in have anywhere from 2 to 8 applications. Even though it makes it difficult for me to find one that needs adopted I am glad someone wants to offer them a good home! Alot of the doodles live so far away there is no way to even consider them. Has anyone else had a hard time finding a doodle to adopt? I'm going to try a little while longer....maybe I'll get lucky!

Ann, have you ever applied before you saw a dog listed? I would recommend applying to any poodle rescues near you, any lab rescues, any golden or aussie rescues near you too. Also be sure you've got an application in to IDOG -- usually if you have an app ahead of time you will be contacted when those rescues get a dog you are looking for. People with apps are often contacted before a dog is even listed for the public.

Also check your local paper and Craigslist as you might find local folks wanting to rehome their doodle.
Ann...there are ALWAYS doodles available for adoption in Ohio....(big puppy mill state) . Seems everyday I am adding another one to the listings...You have to check in with us, Poomix and Petfinder at least twice a day....
I'm in the same situation Ann....I live in Newfoundland, Canada.....and finding a Doodle to rescue is near impossible here as well, even more so, because although a large number of breeders ship, I have yet to find a shelter or rescue that will. I look everyday, in hopes that I may come across a doodle in need close to me....but I've been looking for about 6 months now, with no luck at all :(
but I believe with my whole heart, that when it's meant to happen, it will.....and in the meantime as I concentrate on my grooming education....I'll keep my heart, ears and eyes open, for both you and I :)
don't give up....some doodle soul is waiting to go home with you I'm sure of it!
Jenn...IDOG has a beautiful female currently being fostered in Maine.....

sorry Jacquie, I should have mentioned this.....as much as I wish I qualified for an IDOG doodle, I don't meet all the criteria necessary. I got 95% of the application one day, and sadly enough, there are a few things that I can't offer right now.
I just moved to a new city, and the place I am renting does not have a fenced yard.
and traveling by car is not an option for me so my next doodle will have to get here the same way my Bruce did....shipped to me.
but, keep me posted if you see anything that might fit, I'd love to know!!!
and keep up the good work!!
don't be discouraged by the fence question....IDOG will adopt certain doodles out to wonderful homes that don't have a physical fence as long as they feel confident that the dog will be supervised, leash walked and will be provided with proper exercise....It depends on the specific dog.....what they are accustomed to and their temperments......Case by case basis...
Boy I didn't know you had to have a fence to get a dog from IDOG. I live in an area with very nice 1/2 acre lots and fences are not allowed. That would count me out and I've given my doodles a wonderful safe loving home and everyone in my neighborhood has dogs and thats true of all of them too. They really need to rethink that requirement.
Hi Ann,
You might also want to send an email to Jacquie or Lynn with the DRRC, they are also great with adoption of doodles, they are both also members of DK...Jacquie and Blake, Lynne Fowler DRRC, you can search for them here on DK in the members list. Hope you are able to find that special doodle.
Just to share my story...I decided I wanted a goldendoodle and started searching on petfinder.com, IDOG, and anywhere else I could find. I checked every night....yes, I was doodle-obsessed. After about 4 months, I saw a listing for 6 goldendoodle puppies who had been rescued from a puppymill. It was the first day of the listing and I emailed them. I tried to put in an application, but something was wrong with their site and I couldn't open the right page. Anyway, I received an email back in 2 days and was told all the puppies had been adopted. I sent them back a gracious email. Two days later, I received a phone call from the woman arranging the adoptions. The person who had said she would adopt one of the males had called and changed her mind. I had to drive 51/2 hours each way (to PA) to get my Connor. When we got there he was sick. He ended up in a foster home in NJ to get healthy before we could get him. It was almost a month later when we drove 2 1l2 hrs each way (to MD) to finally get him.
In January, I was looking to adopt another goldendoodle. I found 2 (8-10 weeks old) doodle puppies - both hundreds of miles away, but the adoption agencies were willing to work with me to arrange transportation. Sadly, my husband lost his job when the company he worked for closed. Although we didn't get either one of those doodle babies, when the time is right, I will go on a goldendoodle hunt again.
I literally looked for MONTHS before I found Connor. If I had known what a wonderful dog he was going to be, I would have gladly looked even longer. He is the ABSOLUTE BEST.
Hang in there. Your dog is out there, just waiting for you to find him/her.
Deborah, Your Connor is incredibly handsome! He looks like a big boy! I'm so happy you found him! You certainly went through alot to make him part of your family. I too lost my job but I am taking this time to spend with my mother (who is in a nursing home), my son and my doodle. Just a little while ago I applied for a doodle from a site that Jacquie Yorke suggested. Please let me know how your hunt turns out and I wish you and your family much luck! Thank you for taking time to tell me your story! Ann
What a wonderful story Deb, how lucky Conner is.
NEW ONE JUST POSTED-NO PHOTO THOUGH.....
