Is there a special tool I can use that makes it easy to cut the hair between the pads? A poodle owner I met recently mentioned one, but now I can't remember the name of it ):
I find it difficult to just use the regular clippers.
You might find better advice in our Doodle Grooming group--it's possible they've covered this. But here's what I do.
I use the SAME clippers I use on Rosco's body with the #10 blade that it comes with. I cycle between two blades because they get pretty hot. I also use regular scissors to trim where it is safer...around the outside of the pads.
This is interesting because I use scissors and don't have clippers. I've considered getting clippers because I groom Max in between professional visits.
