So tonight I was playing with Sophie and she has a lamb toy made out of fleece that she ripped apart. I threw away all of the peices except one because it was quite large and she liked to throw it around. She was playing with it and my husband called me. She started to put it into her mouth, and I was telling him about how I should throw it away even though she loves it so much- she tosses it around and loves to play with this stinky shredded peice of a toy. So, She ripped it again and I went to grab it from her.. SHE ATE IT! I couldn't even believe it! I was literally walking toward her to grab it and she swallowed it. I called the Emergency Vet and they told me to give her some peroxide so I did.. I couldn't get her to take all 3 ounces all at once. So she looked like she had the hiccups right after I gave her the peroxide- but no vomitting. It didn't work. I called them back and she told me that she forgot to say to mix the peroxide with a bit of milk to get her to take it all at once. (I was using a syringe) Ugh.. Sophie begged to go outside so I figured she might want to vomit- no luck.. she just tried to eat a ton of grass. A little while later, I found a small amount of foam/peroxide and grass on the floor where she was lying.
The vet told me to watch her closely overnight and to call if she starts to wretch or vomit. Apparently I am supposed to watch for symptoms of bloat or bowel obstruction. She is lying on the couch- I can't decide if she is miserable or tired- or both.
I am kind of freaked out right now- I am afraid to go to sleep- what if she gets sick in the middle of the night and I sleep through it? My dad says she'll just poop it out. Dear God I hope so..

I feel so bad.. It's just me and her right now since my husband is working in North Dakota. I can't stand the thought of something happening to her. I should have thrown that toy away earlier. It was like the size of a sock (maybe one inch wide and six inches long- thin like a thin towel & it was fleece) I've never seen her try to eat anything! I won't be going to work tomorrow because there is no one around that could check on her.

Hope all is well with Sophie!
I hope Sophie did ok last night! Yoda has a tendency to eat toys as well. We have to take them away now once he gets them down to a size he can swallow. So far, he has pooped out everything and sometimes I will be cleaning up the yard and I find half of a toy that we had no idea he ate! We watch him pretty diligently, but obviously I can't keep my eyes on him 24-7, so now I only give him one stuffed toy at a time. After he rips it up I take it away and he gets a new one. It limits his choices but at least he can't sneak toys while I'm not looking. Just a warning...it usually takes him a few days to pass something. I've had a few scares when we've had to check every bathroom trip, and it can be a few days later before we finally find our "prize". Good luck and I hope Sophie is fine :)
Aww! (HUGS)
I hope Sophie is fine and she passes the toy!
How did you both do during the night?????
Hope Sophie's better. Halas has eaten a lot of stuffed toy pieces, but nothing as large as the one you describe. He always poops it out later. Then it's like a game to figure out which toys are represented in the poop samples. Halas does the same thing Sophie was doing. He'll tear up a toy and pick one really small piece to throw around to himself.
Hope you are feeling better Sophie and you and your Mom got some sleep last night, our vet recommends putting the peroxide in peanut butter so we eat it, my friends doodle ate 36 grapes and had to vomit them up and go to the ER, how we learned about the peroxide, than we had to walk around outside till we vomited, and it worked. Most things do pass in dogs poop, and give it a day or two, if you don't see it passing and Sophie is vomiting I would take her in and have her xrayed for the obstruction. Please let us know how you are doing...praying all is well for you both....
Don't feel bad, Beck tries to eat absolutely everything he can fit in his mouth. As soon as I think I have removed everything that can hurt him, he finds something else...he and my Aussie cooperatively 'destuffed' a toy yesterday and I caught them just as Beck was trying to swallow the noise mechanism from the toy...I got health insurance for him, something I never thought I would do for a dog- but I've already paid for x-rays once to make sure one of his 'eating adventures' didn't cause a blockage..
Was just wondering how Sophie and you made it through today...is all ok..Please let us know?
So the peroxide thing didn't work. Of course noone told me to mix it with anything! Anyways, she slept with me all night- she looked miserable. This morning I let her outside at 630am, and she didn't go. Then, around 10am (12hours after she ate it) she barffed it up! WOO HOO. I was sooo relieved. It was quite large and I was just shocked that she could even swallow it. Obviously, her intestines didn't like it much either becuase it was still in her stomach after 12 hours. She is pretty pooped out today, just lounging around. I'm quite tired too after being up with her all night. I am just so thankful she's alright. My vet was pretty happy too, he says now the only thing to do is make sure she is able to get back on a regular eating schedule. I guess peroxide can cause nasty stomach ulcers.. I'm sure that won't be a problem with her because I didn't give her too much. Thanks everyone for thinking of us. Not quite the way I'd like to spend my day off, but that's ok.
Very happy to hear Sophie is doing much better, just a suggestion if you have problems with her stomach might want to try some boiled hamburger or chicken and brown rice for a day and slowly add her food back into it till she is back eating as always...hope this helps...
