We were invited for a "wet dog weekend" in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. A breathtaking full moon and a Salmon BBQ not to mention Bluecrab cocktails by the Mullica River. Sam is an old master of river romping and is teaching young Bandit where to swim and where to run, or when to hitch a ride. I may be biased but weekends don't get much better than this.

Great pics!
Bandit seem to have the perfect weekend.. so did his Dad!
Geoff,
It looked like one fantastic weekend for both Humans and Furkids! Can you share where you were, hotels and anything about it. Would love to plan time this summer an outing like that!
Adrianne

The location is Sweetwater NJ. Our play area is almost 10,000 acres of the Wharton State Forest. There are many campgrounds but no hotels close by. One nice campground is Winding River Campground on The Egg Harbor River. You can rent canoes and day-trip back to the campground. We were staying at a private house on the Mullica river. There are also campgrounds on the Wading River. The Pine Barrens are well named. It is very sparsley populated. It is less than an hour from Phiadelphia but few people know about it.
Here is an overhead view. As you can see there are more rivers than you can shake a stick at.
Thanks Geoff!! Definitely have to do homework on this one! It sounds like a wonderful place to go - maybe a mini Doodle romp? Do you think a day trip would be okay? Are there any public facilities for those who are not campers (me!!!)

Day trips are great. With 4wd and a map there are many sandy beaches along the Mullica and Batsto that are accesable. During the weekdays they are mostly vacant.

Here is a typical river beach. This one is at the mouth of the Batsto River. The rivers runs red due to tannins from the gazillion Cedar trees but is very clean spring water, it is also breath-taking chilly all summer.

...this shot is with my back to the river showing why 4wd's are needed.
How wonderful! Looks like everyone had a fun time especially the dogs.
This is great information, we would love to have you join "Travelin' Doodles" group and share your adventures with us!
Thanks!!! .... I will !
Fantastic Pics, lots of fun for all
