Kachi (5 months old)has just discovered the fun of ripping open his stuffed toys to find the prize inside...the squeaker!! Just today, busy bee, alligator & his striped pony (the one he has in his mouth on our profile pic) met untimely deaths. So sad.

Will he out grow this, or does this mean we're destined for only hard rubber toys from here on out? Is there any way to curb this behavior?

That's funny, and oh, so true! Of course, I use to say the same thing about my son when he was about 4 1/2 and would get into stuff he shouldn't!! And now he's 21, still as cute as ever, and I still can't stay mad at him!
Uh-huh! I have one of those cute 2-legged boys too! Actually I have 2, but it's my 15-year-old that is very exasperating and yet extremely charming! I did/do a lot of chuckling with my face hidden so he doesn't see!
Kachi is adorable -- how could you be mad at that face! When Dempsey had to be crate restricted after an injury last summer, I went down into the basement and found a pile of the kids old stuffies that was destined for Goodwill. I let him "love" them to death. He'd rip out the stuffing and leave a big pile, then I'd stuff it back in, he'd rip it out, I'd stuff it back in etc...
Sometimes now he has a stuffed toy for quite a while...and then one day he'll decide he can't resist any longer, and we'll come home to the carnage. :)
Welcome to the world of searching for indestrucable, but fun toys. The unstuffed toys, that are still plush last longer than stuffed ones for Roo who can take apart, unstuff and find 5 squeakers in a $25 "Tough" toy in less than thirty minutes. Thrift stores are a great source for really cheap stuffed animals and used tennis balls. Just choose the stuffed toys with no sewn on small or sharp parts. As a substitute for chewing soft things which are Roo's favorite, the pet stages aqua blue ball with knotted ropes running through it lasts quite a while. Also the floating rubber toys that are so dense that I am not sure how they float last a long time. Try Smartpak or Drs foster and Smith online stores. Good Luck!!
My two doodles - Rufus & Jacoby - love their stuffies too. Even though the "stuff" is gone they still play and sleep with them. I used to take them away and mend them, but five minutes after getting them back they had a new hole in them. Is it bad to let my dogs have the torn apart toys?
