Clark brought home some yummy liquid laundry detergent a couple weeks ago. Well last week I did laundry of whites and was dismayed at how NOT clean looking they came out. I had even used bleach!

But they SMELLED heavenly. In fact I praised him several times for picking such a wonderful smelling detergent -- made our sheets smell soooo good!

The next couple loads were colors, though, so I didn't notice anything 'wrong.' Just the lovely aroma when they were done.

I was surprised at how few suds I saw in one load, but discounted it as my excessive need to see SUDS (I tend to use a little extra soap now and then, but never like in those movies where the kids pour in a whole detergent box and the washer overflows!).

So tonite I pour in the liquid for a load and there's like ONE sud. Something wasn't right.

I pick up the bottle and search its front label in hopes of seeing the word DETERGENT...but nothing...until I look toward the bottom where I find "fabric softener" written in 3 languages in semi small font.

LOL and ewwwww. No wonder my whites looked dingy...they WERE merely swished around in perfumy lotion water!

So who guessed the end of the story early on? See I never have USED liquid fabric softener so it didn't even occur to me it was not laundry soap. Ahhhh...Clark and I got a good laugh out of it and promptly went to Wal Mart tonite so I could finish the load I had just started.

I read the directions for a dormant fruit tree spray and it said "Do not use on apricots". I interpreted that to mean - do not spray when there were apricots on the tree; not "do not spray on apricot trees". The trees never bore fruit again....
Ooops! LOL
My dad (Cayenne's grandpa) used fabric softener instead of soap for years until someone was visiting as went to do some laundry.
Too funny!!! This sounds like something Sam would do. Which is exactly why I don't let him go shopping alone. Just not worth it.

So...now that you have used liquid fabric softener...aren't you in love! It is soo much better than the dryer sheets. I love it!!! But a warning...don't use too much on your towels...or you won't dry off, you'll just kind of move the water around...
I AM in love... =) Do I just put it in the same little slot that the bleach goes into?
My machine has a spot for liquid fabric softener..........check yours, it might too!
It does NOT! I just looked :-( Only a blech-only slot. So I suppose I just have to time it right and add it at a certain phase of the wash cycle.
That is too much work.

What I would suggest is getting a fabric softener ball dispenser. this can be found at most grocery/department stores. You fill this ball up with softener, put it in w/your wash at the beginning of the cycle, and it will dispense at the right time:)
Heeeheee....I agree and would NOT have done the work anyway. Just wanted to clarify that indeed it was more work than I wanted to do LOL. I will buy that ball.
Ya, if your washer doesn't have the little time released spot the ball is great...which BTW the spot is usually in the middle of the agitator if you have an agitation washer, its just an indentation in the center of it, and it will dispence at the right time.

ANYWAYS...if you dont have that, the ball is perfect, because other wise you DO have to wait until the rince cycle to pour it in the water. A TOTAL pain in the butt, I would NEVER remember to do that.
LOL :) that's totally something I would do :) But I do love my fabric softner for my whites and sheets only! :)
LOL!! I always use Fabric Softener......LOVE how ALL my clothes smell SO good! So, now you should try, huh?
