Anybody here use Kirkland brand (Costco) puppy food? I tried to search for the feeding guide for this particular brand and I am not getting much luck. Any ideas on how much to feed our 7 month old who currently weighs over 70 lbs?
With any food, start at the low end of the recommended feeding guide printed on the bag, and then adjust as needed for your particular food. I can't imagine that this info isn't printed on the Kirkland bags, but if that's the case, use the amount you were feeding with the previous food and adjust as needed. Split the amount between 2 feedings a day.
As far as "ratings" go, we prefer the Dog Food Analysis site for accurate, independent information. Here is a link to the page there for Kirkland: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showcat.php?cat=all...
No bowing! All info is appreciated!
Susan Thixton has some good info, but she gets her nutritional info wrong a lot (she is not a nutritionist) & tends to be something of an alarmist. Which I completely understand, lol.
My advice is to start mixing it with your current food VERY VERY VERY slowly.....this food caused a diarrhea nightmare at my house for a few weeks....even with mixing it with the food they were used to.
I feed my almost seven-month old, somewhere north of 50 lbs dog this food. He gets 2 1/2 cups of it, plus what steals from my small children & what goes in the kong when he is crated.
Some of the more expensive foods give him very soft stools.
Someone already mentioned www.dogfoodanalysis.com The Kirkland dog food is rated a 3 on it I believe---not so great but not horrible. The thing is, all the highest rated foods on that site are not for dogs under 1 because of the extra high protein content and risk of fast limb growth. (If I am wrong in this, someone please let me know.)
There are a lot of puppy formulas among the highest rated foods; many of TFG members are using them for their puppies, and some are even using the adult formulas.
Depending on the dog, by 9 months there is usually no problem with feeding a standard-sized dog adult food...much sooner if it is a mini.
I'll check out the site again. Mostly I have to figure out what ingredient gave him the nasty poos in the Innova, Fromm & Wellness that I fed him for several months. I am kinda in heaven with the current firm stools.
