Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Just a note to introduce myself and my goldendoodle Oliver, aka Ollie to his friends and family. We live in Lake Worth Florida, and we just got Ollie 2 weeks ago. He is the smartest, sweetest lovong little guy. He is 11 weeks old and knows to sit, stay, down, and he has me housebroken, lol....I can tell when he has to go, and we have been doing great with that. He was the runt of the litter, but those big paws seem to tell me that he is going to be a big one...I would like to know how much is enough for him. The vet told me to give him 1 3/4 cups in the A,M. and same at the evening meal. He eats all of that, and I think he would gobble more down if I gave it to him. He has grown so much in the two weeks that we have him, I can't believe it. He is such a love!!!!!....Cheryl

Hi cheryl; Ollie is a fine example of a goldendoodle. As far as food I cant tell you what to do as I put food out twice a day but Abby doesnt eat it all, she is a grazer so I just make sure her dishes are never empty. Maybe keep the dishes full and he will slow down on his gobbling? As long as he is growing and not fat I would probably do 3 times a day.
Cheryl,
First of all Congrats on Ollie, What a cutie. As for food, there is a great group on here, The Food Group that can answer a lot of your questions, however, what food are you feeding and what does the bag recommend? At that age I was feeding Wellness, 1 cup three times a day. Went to 2ce a day around 16-18 weeks. The other thing is knowing how to feel for his ribs and tell if he feels underfed.
I have just gone to homecooked and raw feeds so that was the most important to me because thier is no bag with directions with that. We go by pds now as in 50lb dog = 1 pd of food a day, just a s a general guide.
Being a puppy tho, my vets weren't concerned with overfeeding as much as underfeeding due to the activity level of a pup and the growth.
Check out the food group, Lynne and Karen are awesome, as are all the other participants
Hi Sue, thanks for the response, I just have him on Purina puppy, which I hate, but that is what he was on when I got him. I ahve been gradually taking him off that and on to Canidae all stages. My otherdog has been on that all of his life, and never had a problem, has no skin conditions, and his coat is soft and shiny. I like the fact that it is a well balanced food with no by products in it, and got wonderful reviews from many breeders and people that use it. when the scare with the pet food was going on, Canidae was one of the few that was not included, it is made here, not China....And I am going to take your advice and get on that Food Group site. Is it ok if I add you as a friend?....Cheryl
ABSOLUTELY!!!! BTW, we are in Stuart Fl now and I will be in Lake Worth for a baby shower on Sat. Maybe we can plan to get together with the pups some time? The Juno Beach on A1A is a Dog Beach and it;s great. Dogs run off-leash and love the ocean. Our pup learned to swim at that beach. That's about 1/2 way for both of us.

My Murphy is 6 months old. 45 pds. so a little bigger than Ollie, but even at 11 weeks, Doodles just seem to know how to play with each other well. You will prob. want to wait until he has had his last set of shots. I just heard on WPEC channel 12 last night about a warning about Parvo in WPB area.

Let me know? Oh they have a Doodle Romp the last sat,. of each month there too, just FYI.
Sue that is such great news that u are not really far from us!....Where is the baby shower in Lake Worth?.....The Juno beach doodle romp sounds like fun, and we could meet there for some fun for the babies, lol...I would like to wait until he finishes all his shots, I agree with you. He is currently up to date with Parvo and all the other ones, but I think it is better to wait until he has completed all his shots. Are u in Stuart all year round? or are u a snowbird?...Whatever, I would love to get together with you. We went to a doodle romp in Ft lauderdale some months ago, to check out the doodles. I was going to get a labradoodle, but we got a goldendoodle instead...I find it hard to tell the difference between them, lol, by looks anyway....I am hoping that Ollie has a great doodle coat, but I guess it is too soon to tell what his coat will be, when does the rel coat start to come in?...thanks for all the info my friend...
