I took Mickey in for a grooming yesterday and I told her to cut him down a bit so he looked just like he was but shorter. When I got there she said that he was too matted and shaved him down all of the way like we do in the summer, AND she cut his face and head like a poodle. Nothing wrong with poodles. I have owned them in the past, but I just adored his doodle face and now he has a pointed snout and a poofy head. Any suggestions to remedy his head, besides waiting for his hair to grow back?

I just read through the matting suggestions so will take that to the bank. I thought I was being a great doodle owner, but found that I wasn't getting far enough down into his coat.

You're so right! It was even worse on DAD! He wanted to hide with Mickey. It was like nothing happened in his mind. He just felt free-er and cooler. It just happened to another doodle that Mickey plays with. We all live and learn....and continue to train the local groomers how to properly groom doodles.
It all seems so long ago as his hair does grow back so fast! We learned a very important lesson about details when you go to the groomer. We have since been to two different groomers and now know (almost) everything we need to tell the groomer before we leave. Thanks everyone for the support!!!
The same thing happen to me 7 weeks ago.finally now hes starting to look like a doodle again.I thought i was doing a good job combing him,but under his beard wre matts i wasnt getting to.So now I found a little comb just for his face that i comb everyday to prevent matting! Its perfect for the beard! I learned my lesson!
My GD go this first haricut yesterday .. it took 5 hours and they need to come back for his head. He wa so matted there was a webbing, like a wig, between the puppy cut and the adult. I guess that was the mats. I had a mobile groomer so though I still do not recognize him the shock was not as bad. He still has large mats on the back of his head and under his ears/cheeks to remove. Can I leave the long top of his head and face..he looks like a lion now but at least I can recognize him. How long does it take to grow back so at least he has a pupy cut look? How long until they get a full coat? Thanks for your support.
OK, so this just happened to me this summer. We were traveling and I took Darbey to a groomer and asked her to "trim" her face. When I picked her up, I truely did not think she was my dog! She shaved her face down to the skin! She shaved her all the way to her ears and down the front of her neck, she looked like she had a turtle neck sweater on! I was so upset! That was the first week of August. Her hair is growing back, but not very fast. How long did it take for Mickey to get his doodle face back? I don't have anything against poodles either, but I am really getting tired of people calling my doodle a poodle!
