Hefty fines and new charges against kennel owner

The owner of the former Almost Heaven Kennel has been fined $152,900 by the state and is facing more than 200 new charges stemming from the raid and closure of the operation last month.
The state Department of Agriculture says it has fined Derbe "Skip" Eckhart for each dog that he kept at the kennel at 4202 Chestnut St. in Upper Milford Township after he exhausted appeals of his 2009 kennel license denial.
Chris Ryder, an agriculture department spokesman, said the department fined Eckhart $100 a day for seven days for all 216 dogs that should have been removed between June 16 and June 23.
In addition, the department fined Eckhart $100 for each of 17 dogs that it says were transferred out of the kennel after June 6 without the state's approval.

Eckhart was charged this week with 216 counts of violating the state dog law because he failed to remove 216 dogs from the kennel after the his appeal period ended, according to a complaint filed at District Court in Emmaus.
He faces an additional 17 counts of violating a cease and desist order by transferring 17 dogs out of the kennel without approval of the state.
Under the terms of his license denial, Eckhart was not allowed to transfer animals without approval of a dog warden.
Eckhart has 30 days to pay the fine, but also has 15 days to appeal the penalty.

Yes because I was being told something completly different..what you people dont even want to hear...Skip himself was going around telling people how he was not allowed to clean up that day after his dogs when he was raided...having over 500 dogs..yeah your going to have a lot of poop and smell...if your not allowed to take care of your animals on a paticular day..than yes you will have an odor...And there you go again Jacquie thinking you know it all...Honey was not purchased in Feb. of 2009. I ought to know when my own dog was purchased, and why she was purchased. Big deal I used the term I wanted a dog to breed a breeding contract to "SAVE A DOG" and your going to keep this up...was the only way to get her out of there...the only way...and you want to condem me for Saving a Dog... when even the State dog warden who went undercover couldnt get a dog out of there under a breeding contract, but I could to find out what really was going on and to try and help...Yes I put my NECK on the line...your the sick one...the one who keeps harassing someone...every time someone post about breeding a dog you's the DRRC jump down their throats just like you did Gail the other day..how do you think other people see you..what they think of you...when they read and see this...Not everyone has your same opinions or views, NOR do I...but it does not mean that I care any less not to save a dog if they are being abused. I would SAVE HONEY 1000 over again if I had to. OH! HOW SHOCKING...

Jac, is this true? No dogs were ever purchased from Skip except on breeding contracts? That was the only way anyone could buy a dog from him, if they signed a breeding contract? No dogs were ever sold as pets to anyone? Every dog that ever left AH left there on a breeding contract?
ANYONE WHO BUYS A PUPPY MILL DOG WITH THE INTENTION OF BREEDING IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE PUPPY MILL OPERATOR. THEY ARE THEIR OWN LITTLE PUPPY MILL. BUYING A DOG WITH THE INTENTION OF BREEDING IT IS NEVER "RESCUING" THE DOG. BREEDING PUPPY MILL DOGS WILL NEVER BE CONDONED BY ANY PERSON WHO TRULY CARES ABOUT THE WELFARE OF HOMELESS DOGS.
PUPPY MILL DOGS SHOULD NEVER BE BRED. IT BENEFITS NO ONE, AND IS IMMORAL. -

After he was raided it was mostly the only way anyone could buy a dog from him..again you's were not there...you's were not dealing with him...I DID..NOT YOU..futher more...that is your opinion Karen..not everyone elses, you keep trying to cram down everyones throats your Views..and you get NO WHERE....again you don't see other sides to a story..it ONLY KARENS WAY OR NO WAY...

My way too! Denise, I cannot imagine ANYONE here in DK that would agree with you. That is my opinion and no one shoved that down MY throat. Karen, Jacquie and Lynne are NOT shoving their views down anyones throat - what they ARE trying to do is open the eyes of Doodle Lovers. If they change the mind of ONE person, then they have done their job. They are trying to educate those like me that just didn't have a clue. So why do you have a problem with that? And if you do, why do you keep responding to discussions that you obviously have issue with? Just don't get involved. You seem to make everything said your personal war. And there is enough of that in the world that you don't have to do it here in DK. This is supposed to be a place of sharing and learning. NOT wars!!!
My Samantha came from a pet store - I would not change her for the world BUT if I knew then where the dogs come from what I know now, NEVER would I haved stepped foot in there.
There is no way that 1 day of not cleaning up that it would smell like that - bringing tears to the rescuers eyes. I am finally getting the PM smell out of Mickey. It is in his pores and he never had that puppy smell. Even if the smell came from the shelter, why was he there? He is an AH graduate! You are trying to say that they vile smell came from only one day of not cleaning. Sorry, I just don't buy it. -

No problem in education, Trying to open someones eyes...Are you saying we all have our eyes closed? They are not changing even one persons mind thats the problem....and you don't know the harassing comments being made behind in emails...I do.. that is not education...I keep being harassed and said OH I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS ABOUT SKIP...could say the same about you and pet stores, you have gone to pet stores probably as much as the next person..but I don't go around harassing you, all I tried to do before was ? you on the statement you said was made by the Dog Whisper, so I understood what was meant by living in the present..you blew it out of porportion. Yes DK is suppose to be a place of sharing and learning not Harassing some on here when the mood fits the DRRC. Had you not stepped into that pet store..look all you would be missing...Had I not got Honey out..look at all I would be missing..and that applys to all who have a dog..had we not opened our hearts for them..no matter what the situation..we would not be here. Gods honest truth when we went to AH back in May of 2008, his dogs did not stink like this. What took place in a years time I can't answer that. With over 500 dogs peeing and pooping at least 2 to 3 xs a day that smell would add up even in a days time it would not be pleasant. I did not see any tears in rescuers eyes that day when i was out there, not saying that they didn't...but I can't say they did when I was there. It took me three baths and a hair cliping to the skin to get it out of Honey, and she was there for 6 months of her life, in a crate. Ask the dog wardens of PA why they raided Skip. I'm not saying it was only one day...that is the excuse Skip stated himself and told us, why it smelled so bad on the day of the raid.... Again what happened between May of 2008 and Oct 1, when the raid was only Skip can answer that, I don't know why it went dowhill the way it did. So wether or not you buy it or anyone else does, It is what it is...and it's not going to change.

My opinion is just as valid as anyone else's, Denise, and I have just as much right to express it in an open forum as anyone else does. I no more try to "cram" anything down "everyone's throat" than you do...people are free to read what I post or not, as they choose. I dare say there are very few people who think it is perfectly fine to breed a sick, badly unsocialized puppy mill dog who has lasting "memories" of having lived in hell, which is what you have said about her here over and over again like a broken record.
As you said of Skip, "...this man could b******* a buffalo off a nickle." Yes, that's true of many people. They are very good at making excuses and telling hard-luck stories. After awhile, people see through them. -

No one said your opinions are not valid at times, no one said you can't express your opinions in an open forum...providing your not Harassing someone while doing it and breaking NING's terms of Service. And yes you get very harassive towards myself and others because you don't like our opinions. How Honey would be till the time I could breed her, is my Business, If I choose to breed her, or NOT...is MY BUSINESS...NOT YOURS or the DRRC's. SICK...having bugs..is treatable..not life threating, nor is it heridatary. Badly Unsocialized, you can always socialize a dog and didn't someone say AH's dogs turn around real quick and are easy to socialize...Funny how you think you can just judge someone you have never meet persoanlly ...any of you...but for the friends who have KUDOS...
