I may not be the best spokesperson here because I have not been through this yet but since my first litter of pups will be getting neutered fairly soon I think I can step up. It's the obvious reason of course. Don't dig deeper on this one because we men don't either. We feel for the poor boys that will have their prize possesions taken from them. I think it would be easier on them when they are young since they won't remember having that part of their body but of course we think about what they will go through and if they will be less than male because of that proceedure. We project our own fears of loosing our male parts onto our dogs. Some men can't get past that and frankly I understand why. But as responsible dog owners we need to see past our own projected feelings/fears and do what is best for our
pups. Great topic!
I know that I am responding very late to this discussion but it has taken me this long to really evaluate my thoughts on this topic. I agree with Scott that we project our own fears nto our dogs and that e must do the right thing in neutering our puppies. There are many reasons but the main reason is for population control. There are many other benefits. There are health and behaviour (sp?) benefits.
The real question is what is the proper time to have it done? There are other discussions on this so let's not open up that issue here.
Hey Andy...We should put the link in here for that discussion and the one on "Neuticals" as well!..lol..BTW: Thank you for "you- know-what" and for chatting with Jackie about her doodle with seizures....You're the best!...And HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARINER!! He's A Moon Child like me!
LOL!..they really need to go.....The most important reason being that if they keep them, when they are older they have a 90% chance of developing testicular cancer after the age of 7 !.....
To append to your "mastectomy" comment...Many women who have an increased risk of developing breast cancer, opt to have VOLUNTARY, double, radical mastectomies that remove their HEALTHY breasts as a preventative!
