Allie is afraid of waves!!!!

So... we brought Allie to the lake last weekend and wouldn't you know - she is SCARED to death of the water. I think it's more the waves that she's afraid of because that's when she really jumped back (lol). I went into the water a little, and tried to lure her in with treats, but she didn't even want them!!!!! That's when you know we have a problem. I also tried tugging on the leash a little, but she sat down in the sand and wouldn't budge!!!! I wasn't going to torture her so I really didn't make a big deal of it - but when leaving we were kind of sad that she didn't like it. We are going to the lake for a week in August. I guess we will try again - but I'm sure that nothing will have changed with her by then! Any tips anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!!!!

awe :) I'm going to buy one today after work just to see what she will do (lol). I'm determined to get her to love it. I'm not sure why though - she matts very badly if not brushed 1-2 times per day (not kidding), and she is so much harder to brush after she gets wet, so it shouldn't really bother me. It just makes me feel bad that she could be having tons of fun but she doesn't want to (lol).

The puppies do not have any depth perception and even in a pool can not tell where the bottom is. In the tub or shower it is obvious to them because it is shallow. My Sabrina just jumps in anywhere, but Coco loves to swim..she just is VERY SLOW AND CAREFUL getting in..had to lift her in to show her it was OK when she was a puppy. We cradled her in our arms and "floated" her around, like you would a baby! and she learned to love it..but she is still very careful when she is in any new body of water. Sabrina will actually jump the waves and swim out in the ocean as long as I am near, but Coco will play in the water and up to the first VERY SMALL wave and that is as far as she will go. Again, she loses site of the bottom! But at least she gets in up to her tummy....shoulders! Good Luck..it is so much fun to have them play in the water with you!
