Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I was just at Petsmart and a lady was walking across the parking lot with a beautiful Golden Retriever. She stopped me and asked me some questions about my car, as she is thinking of getting one. She said she is a Breeder and was questioning whether a crate would fit in the back seat or not. She asked if I had a dog and when I told her I had 2 Golden Doodles, she rolled her eyes, turned up her nose and made an awful face. "Why would anyone ever consider paying that much money for a Mutt!! That's all they are ya know...mutts." And she went on and on about GD's and all kinds of negative things about them. She made me so mad, I think if she had not had the Golden Retriever standing there beside her, I probably would have run over her.

Yes, I am still pretty steamed at this ... doesn't it seem odd that out of the same side of the mouth comes the, 'purebred' and 'shelter' argument? I mean, okay, at the shelter, you typically find mutts. And, if you have a purebred, ya probably didn't find them at the shelter anyway. I can almost take the arguments individually, but it's that they seem to come together that bugs me.

I really don't know what a breeder would do with an unsold puppy, but I might guess that they would be donated to become rescue dogs; something that the typical shelter dog can't do.

AND, lastly, thank goodness I live in a country with free speach so that I have the ability to tell all of those stupid people how wrong they are! :-)
My favorite is the incongruent argument that has these two sides:
1-- you never know what you're gonna get with these dogs...it's a crapshoot! Don't think you'll ever get a chihuahua out of two standard sized dogs. Don't think you'll get a hairless out of a lab and poodle. Yes, there are variations...but you pretty much know within a narrow range what you'll get!

2 -- All doodles are out of control & hyper! This is not true, but if it were it would nullify the previous assumption that it's all a crapshoot.

Thankfully, I've not yet run into anyone who was rude about our doods. I'm not sure what I'd do, but it likely wouldn't be pleasant! My neighbor did tease me and say that he'd heard that "everyone who owns a goldendoodle is pretentious." We both laughed, then, because DH and I are probably the least pretentious people we know!
I did find a shirt that would address this topic perfectly. Check out this link for the "K9 Snob Patrol Dog Shirt":

I like it!
I had been going to a AKC club for handling classes. Because we do show a great pyr. I decided that I would take Charlie there for his classes .I did ask before I sign up if they allowed mixes to attend there classes.People all ways want to know what is he. Well I have tried it all, from Goldendoodle, to mix, to desginer dog. One night ,someone asked me what is he"I said, he is Charlie," What is that? He is Charlie:) Finally i had to tell her it's a goldendoodle. She walked away.

On the very last class for our advance basic class I over heard someone say " Charlie" I then looked over and said" Are you talking about my dog?' She explain that she was trying to tell her what Charlie was.

Every day I remind myself how luck I am to have this wonderful Dog. He brings me so much joy and happiness that I really don't care what those simple minded people think. It really is their loss not ours!
I had a friend whose wife could not remember "Labradoodle" and kept calling our baby a "Snickerdoodle" which was pretty cute, so I told her he is really a "Whackadoodle" since he really is so wacky!
In the exciting lead up to getting Finn we visited a number of local pet stores to buy food and products. In one such place, an up-market store, an assistant replied to our enthusiastic "We're getting a Miniature Labradoodle!" with a tut, a roll of the eye-balls and the comment, "cor, they're doing them in miniature now are they?" He then went on to tell us how we had been sold a 'mutt' and could have bought a pure-bred labrador for half the price! Needless to say, we left the store. Later that day, still fuming, I e-mailed a complaint to the store manager, emphasizing how I would be taking my puppy's life-long purchasing power elsewhere. Amazingly, I got a response and the manager was honest enough to admit it was he himself whom we'd spoken to in the store! He apologised for hurting our feelings and offerred us a $50 compensatory purchase. We thanked the manager for his apology but declined the $50. We made it clear the damage was already done and that we would not be returning.
I explain to people all dogs or purebreeds of dogs are the by product of Mutts (dog mixes) or selective breeding. That is that man has been altering or refining breeds for thousands of years. I am pleased to say I have a very special ,highdollar ,purbred mutt. Some one was wise enough to put together a couple of the best breeds of dog to interact with man in a more positive way.The mixing of two breeds of dog often developes a hardier animal. The breeder I use was carefull to check the medical history and background of the dogs she bred. My mutt is healthy in every way. Oh ! did i mention she is just as loving as any purebred dog.
ROFL...she actually tried to prove to you he sheds! HA! As if you wouldn't have known that for yourself...goodness!
Wow, that is so unreal Tawnya. I would have pulled some of her hair out had she tried that with my dogs! I don't understand what is wrong with some of these people?

We train at Petsmart too, Buddy is the trainer's favorite, and she tells him so. He adors her too, when I tell him we are going to see Renee, he bounds around and can't wait to get out the door.

Just last weekend I had two people making bets with each other on whether Kona was a labradoodle or poodle puppy :) One lady came up and asked me the question, when I told her labradoodle, she turned around and told her friend, "you won". LOL People have been pretty receptive to my two, only one or two comments from poodle breeders,
but nothing like what some of you have run into.
That just shows how ignorant she is!!! All breeds come from mixing breeds. Tammie
Mutt, shmutt!! Who cares what anyone thinks about your doodle. Everyone has their own reasons for choosing the dog they have whether it is a mutt, purebred or hybrid. Doodle owners know how special they are and that's that. I say just just ignore them, they'll go away.
