ConsumerLab.com tested various pet glucosamine and chondroitin supplements. They caught them lying; ConsumerLab.com test results found many supplements contained far less glucosamine and chondroitin than was advertised, leaving pets lacking for mobility support.

When your pet needs some assistance climbing stairs, many pet owners turn to ‘over the counter’ glucosamine supplements. The problem however, as testing by ConsumerLab.com proves, many supplements do not provide the promised glucosamine and/or chondroitin to benefit your pet.

ConsumerLab.com tested 13 dog and/or cat mobility supplements. Four of the thirteen failed to meet the stated amount of glucosamine and/or chondroitin. As example, Dogswell Happy Hips Chicken Breast with Glucosamine and Chondroitin tested to contain only 6% of the claimed amount of glucosamine and 15.9% of the claimed condroitin. Cosequin DS, on the other hand, tested to meet the stated amounts of glucosamine and condroitin.

Wow, they tell you just enough to get you interested and then say you have to become a member to find out if what you are using is included in the below par group. Lynn, are you by any chance a member of that website? I'd love to know how the Nutri-Vet chalked up, but don't really want to sign up for (yet another) email list. I may just switch to the Cosequin...but the Nutri-Vet wasn't exactly cheap, so I hope Duff is getting some benefit from it.
Sorry, I got sidetracked. They want $30.00 to join. I just can't see spending it.
That's a bottle of Glucosamine supplements, lol!
Or 2. Just something else to be aware of.
I am using uba vet for our 15 yr old. I bought it from the vet. I questioned him about it as I had been using some from the pet store. The vet said that the amounts that are in the concoction are less in pet store brands as the vet clinics are able to provide a stronger formula as a medical facility yet still not prescription.
I do think it helps. I used it for myself as I have a genetic disability that affects my joints. (not the vet stuff) I found it didn't do much pain wise. The Doctor said even though it didn't help me pain wise it was putting the nutrients into my body giving long term benefits and protection.
My friends started thier spaniels on it and it had a huge difference in the dogs. THey were unable to do stairs before and now they go up the stair case them selves again.
Arthritis pain and disability vary from day to day and over time. recent studies do not suppotr any benefit from chondroitin and glucosamine in humans. I've stopped the supplement for myself.
Glucosamine and chondroitin have been shown to be of no benefit to humans. the most recent Berkley wellness letter mentioned this but I have read this elsewhere as well.
