I am giving Jordan her nightly rub down and I see this. Do any of you what it is? What caused it? Is it a bruise or maybe a "rug burn" but it is on her inner leg.
I am worried it is a spider bite.
Any ideas, she is licking it but not a lot.
I think you are right, could be a bug-spider bite. You can safely give (benadryl) diphenhydramine, 1 mg per lb every 8 hours. This will reduce any inflammation and itching if it is some kind of allergic reaction. However remember, Benadryl may make her drowsy. Try it today and if it isn't better or worse by tomorrow, you may want to see your vet. Good luck. ps I am a vet tech at a small animal hospital.
Thank you the replies/help :)
This morning it looks exactly the same, she is licking it but it is not "hot" to the touch. She will let me touch it so it is not hurting her.
I was doing yard work in the front of the house yesterday and had her on the front chain with me. She is used to free roaming in the back. I almost never have her on the chain. Maybe she got a "rug burn" from the chain. The chain is the kind that is wire wrapped in plastic. Our front is not fenced, but we have a lot of spiders right now so it could still be a bite.
Ugh! Spiders the are everywhere right now. Thankfully they are small, but small ones grow into big ones.
It kind of looks like it could have been the "chain", or tether wire, because of the shape of it. Maybe she got it under her leg and suddenly started to run or something. You certainly did get good pictures of it! Hope it clears up without any further problems. Good luck with those spiders too! They can sure make a mess of windows and screens and if they get in . . . . .oh yuck!
Is it raised, or flush to the skin..? Gosh....looks like a leash burn, or something like that....I know sometimes with a bug bite, you will get that red poison line....but, really does not look like ones I have seen.
I'm sure it will disappear in a few days.....
