Well I had just finished a book on Oliver Wendell Holmes, and I thought I like the name Oliver, so when we looked at him, he looked like and Oliver, lol, so that was his name....He is an O;iver, or Ollie to his friends, lol
Molly is what I would've named my third girl, if I'd had one. She's our Molly Doodle. A man who worked in the same building as my DH and me, used to bring his dog to work. He was a really sweet dog and he looked a lot like our old dog Artie, and his name was Gus. So, Molly's brother is named Gus. The lady who worked for his breeder called him "Gus Gus", like the mouse in Cinderella, so more times than not we call him "Gus Gus". Funny how names stick like that!
How we picked our dogs' names:
1) Toby: My first friend in kindergarten had a dog named Toby, I always said if I ever had a dog, that would be his name.
2) Cody: This was my "Boy" name I had picked out for my third pregnancy before we learned the sex of the baby... (I've had four girls....)
3) Sable: The pups name was originally supposed to be "Sandi", but we switched "lists"; from a red doodle to a chocolate doodle, and the name just didn't fit. I'm French-Canadian, so I thought of the French word for sand. Later I found out it is an actual dog-term used to describe a rare coat coloring (not even sure what it looks like, if anyone knows, i'd love to learn!)
Maddy got her name from one of our favorite NJ Devils Hockey Players...his name is John Madden...she is a girl so we named her Maddy...however...he was let go to free agency and now plays for Chicago :0( He was and still is one of my all time favorite Devils though...played for us for 10 years!
Jordan was named for the greatest Basketball player of all time,it is fitting because she is the greatest doodle of all time. ;)

My other animals are named MJ short for Magic Johnson (black cat, I could not handle calling her Magic) Lincoln (cat) was named for the city Dh rescued him from. Azrael (cat) I named from the smurfs.I've had her since I was 17.
My Payton (oh do we miss him) was named for (Walter Chicago Bears/Gary Payton S.Sonics)
Blake is named for William Blake poet, painter, writer.........
Beckett is named after the pitcher for the Red Sox... Josh Beckett. They're my favorite team. He's one of my favorite players. I love the name Cagney. I loved him...was a great actor
Ned was an impulse buy; saw puppies within 2 days of seeing our first doodle; thought about it for 5 more days; road trip to get him. During our thinking week, my husband woke up one morning and said we should name him NED ( while I was dreaming of the red female I would name Ruby). He said he got the name idea from a student he had years ago that was really cute with red hair and freckles. It also happens to be my initials using my maiden name. I like it because Ned is Nancy Drew's boyfriend and I grew up reading her mysteries. With all of that history I don't understand why we didn't choose Ned for either of our other two male dogs when we got them. I have to say though, neither of them looks like a Ned, and our doodle - also known as Noodle or Noodle-ishus, definitely is a Ned. On the trip to get him we brainstormed other names, just for the fun of it, but it was always going to be a doodle named Ned.
Motta was the name of a town I lived in in Sicily, IT. Motta San Anastasia. I loved it there and have many wonderful memories of it. I got Miley 3 weeks after Motta and someone on here actually gave me the idea for her name. It matches but now I know it's a popular name because of Hanna Montana....
Makes a nice pair.
Hartley was named for the town we lived in back home in England (Hartlepool). We had it down to Hartley or Iggy (Jarome Iginla, Calgary Flames) and when we saw him, Hartley it was. Chase was a nameless puppy for the first week we had him!! As we already have a male we were going for a female, to be called Abby or Emma. But, we ended up picking a male puppy and had no male names. I was calling him Junior to start with until my DH came up with Chase!!
I love the name Chase - for dogs or kids!
