My doodle, Brody, needs to take a pill. We've tried putting it in food, hiding it in treats, and placing it under his tongue. He keeps spitting this darn pill out! It's making us crazy! Help!

I just push the pill to the back of their throat. I use my thumb on my right hand and push the pill down the side of the throat. It works on both dogs.
Yup, I do this too. I just push it back so far with my fingers that he can't get it out with his tongue and he just swallows it instead. Works great as long as your dog won't bite you! :)
My Bearded Collie had Addison's Disease. She was on meds twice a day for 12 years. I bought Turkey Ham for her. She wolfed it down without barely chewing it. It was her 'special treat'. I find that all my dogs learned to seperate the cheese and the pills - deli meats were a life saver (literally for Maggie).
I'm pleased to announce that Brody took his pill tonight!!! The peanut butter did the trick!!!! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INPUT!!!!
We can give occasional pills by putting peanut butter on a spoon and putting the pill in it and letting the dog lick off the peanut butter - we do this occasionally with not pill just to keep up the treat idea. Recently our Springer had to have surgery and was taking pills 3xs a day. When the spoon no longer worked we made a BillJack treat by putting the pill in the middle with peanut butter and giving several treats before and after the pill-laced one. We tried pill-pockets and they worked well but gave our guy diarrhea. It got really tricky because his appetite was so impaired, but the one treat right after the other with a pill-laced treat in the middle worked.
I put Wilson's in a bannana slice
I usually can hide the treat in velveeta cheese, as it doesn't separate like other cheese, but once I had to resort to the open mouth, pill down throat tactic. Place pill on top of tongue and way back -- and there is a place behind the teeth you can grasp that the mouth opens almost automatically... and i rubbed the pill with butter first so it slid down easily. Was pretty quick and painless, you can also hold bottom jaw open if necessary, but usually its not if you are quick. Good Luck!
Thank you all for your suggestions!!!! They sound great!!!!!
Here is my so far fool proof method to get Penny to take a pill. Take 3 pieces of deli meat or cheese - which ever your dog likes more. Put the pill in the middle piece. In quick succession - give your dog the three pieces of meat. No pill, with pill, no pill. The piece with the pill is quickly swallowed to get to the third piece. Hope it works!
