What are they used for and how much should I expect to pay for a decent pair?

Thinning shears will shorten a coat without leaving steps. Steps are obvious cut marks in the coat. I use them for around the eyes and ears. They are the most useful for straighter fleece coated dogs. Curly wool dogs do not get steps as easily.

They are also called blending shears. You would expect to pay at least $100 for a decent pair.
I was hoping in the 30-40 range... (Petedge.com)
Well, they won't be nearly as good - sorry - when it comes to scissors it is generally better to get the better pair - you'll use them so much - and a good scissor with proper care lasts a long time - years.
ok, I took your advice, these are the pair I got, have you heard of the brand? Do you think they're good?
