Not to toot my own horn or anything.....But, I just may have struck the jackpot, but by complete accident of course! You see, I stole Super Nanny's idea to use "Naughty Spot" rugs for my girls when they have to go into time out, (mostly Vanessa, LOL), anyway, so I went to the local paint/carpet/flooring store in town, and bought (here it comes....) $1.00 dollar carpet sample squares! I bought some extra because I have a mutli-level house and I wanted to be prepared... ANyway, the other day after the Labor Day/Fireworks/pooping in the kennel fiasco, I was scrambling as to what I should put in there for Sable while her sherpa crate bed liner was in the wash, and ah-ha, I had a vision: CARPET SQUARE! It's perfect, they usually come in two or three different sizes, or you can get a couple small ones and put them end on end; depending on the size of your crate. Anyway, hopefully I don't put the dog bed industry in the red with my idea, I just couldn't resist sharing my "Eureka" moment with all my Doodly friends! Oh, one more thing, if someone has already thought of this and posted about this, I am a ninkompoop who doesn't do my research and who likes to take credit for well, everything, so I leave you with my sincerest and most humble appologies. If no one claims to have thunk it up first? Well, then may I please say, "na na na na goo-goo?!"

(I really hope my sarcasm is apparent...)

Haha -- I do not claim to have invented it but...

I have a friend who does this with her dog. It's more of a "waiting area" than a punishment. Doorbell rings -- go to your spot and wait for release. Playing to rough/barking... go to your spot and wait. Etc. It works well for her and her dog. Let us know how the training goes -- I'd love to hear more tips :)
Ok- this sounds like a dream come true; "go to your spot and wait for release"???? My doodle runs to the door with such excitement and I have to hold onto his collar for a minute to let people in. Then he scurrys around looking for something to put into his mouth to show this visitor-this could be a shoe, the dishcloth, my underwear or whatever is closest. It's nothing but chaos for the first few minutes until things settle down. Is this carpet remnant that your friend uses a "magic carpet"? I want one.
We are working on 'go to your spot' with Harlow. It was our last lesson in Puppy class.
LOL, I think the naughty spot was for her human kids. Too funny.
(yup, naught spot for the kiddos, rug square in kennel for the doggies--I would never put my dogg in a kennel as punishment, I know better)
Yes, we teach this as Spot and use it for Stays (Sit or Down). This is especially helpful when there is a knock at the door... you can train them to go to their Spot when they hear a knock or doorbell! This is what our puppies get taught in Puppy School when they stay past their go home date.
good to know!
LOL you are funny! Eureka idea except you have to throw it away if it gets soiled. A better idea is an old blanket or sheet you can wash. ;o)

Now go to your naughty spot Edison!

Heyyyyyy "Edison" what an utterly awesome name for a dog!!!! Eureka! I am soooo smart!

:o))
(I just throw it in the wash!)
You, my dear, are a genius!
