Adrianne Matzkin has awesome Martingale collars. She should go into the business! She can send you to a few very nice websites. I believe she posted them in this group.
Don't feel bad, I had no idea what one was either.
THANKS Joanne!! Just what I need!! Another full time job!!! Not enough to work for my husband and 2 doodles!!
They are a wide cloth collar that has can pull tighter when there is tension.
Here are a few pictures I copied on the internet

This is what one website said:
A martingale collar is a special type of dog collar that helps a dog stay comfortable while being completely secure on their leash. A martingale collar is made with two loops. The large loop is placed around the dogs neck and adjusted to fit loosely. The leash is then clipped to the D ring on the small loop. When the dog tries to pull their head out of the collar, the tension on the leash pulls the small loop taunt, which makes the large loop smaller and tighter on the neck-- preventing escape.

When adjusted properly the dog is never choked, but the collar stays snug around the dog's neck (just behind the ears) until the pressure is released.

thank you! (I think I want one...)
I think I want one too. I'll take two. Maybe Adrianne will design one for us :)
I am going to strangle you!!!! But I will make ordering one very easy for you!

I met this home based company at the L'Oreal's Because Your Dog Is Worth It Too day last month. She did not make buckle martingales at the time but told me she ordered the chain and will make them. A buckle martingale makes it easy to get on and off - doesn't have to slide over their heads. Make sure you measure your dogs neck and tell her the size.
$15.00 a collar. If you want a fabric you love, you just have to send her 1/2 yard and she will make it for you. Her products are very well made.
If you order from her, please tell her Adrianne from DoodleKisses gave you her info. I am not getting any money but I did tell her that DK members would just love this product and I want her to it.

With a Buckle Martingale I use this ype of ID tag. It attaches like a belt- weave the collar thru the tag. It can be moved from one collar to another of the same size collar.

Thank you Adrianne! I ordered one of these doo-dads (with a matching lead of course) and can't wait to get it! BTW, I chose "Red Bandanna" for the print!
I think it is for dogs that pull. It is on the same premise as a pronged collar with a stop so the dog doesn't choke. But it is without the prongs and much prettier since it comes in web fabric and designs. If the dog pulls it tightens but has the stop so that it won't continue to tighten around their throat. The idea is that the dog feels this tightening and doesn't like it so they stop pulling...not always so sorry to say!!!! Also, there is a correct way and incorrect way to put it on and I always get it backwards. If you use one, have someone show you the correct way or read the instructions if it comes with some. There usually is a diagram to show the correct way!! Hope this helps...
I was told they are for dogs that pull...a more humane answer to the choke chain. We have our puppy in a class through our local SPCA and we were required to get a Martingale collar for him for class. The thing that I like about it is I don't think he can pull out of it, which is something that always makes me nervous because I tend to make their collars just a skosh too big because I worry so much about them being too tight!
