I dont know what it is about me. But whenever I go to a persons house who has a cat I get molested by the cat! I am not a cat person. I would never harm a cat and I dont dislike any animal on the planet (except things like, ticks, fleas, lice, mosquitoes...etc...lol) But I am not a fan of the feline. Yet whenever I go anywhere where there is a cat and a houseful of people the cat directly approaches me (and often me only - no kidding!) and will, rub up against me, purr, jump on my lap - I push it away and it comes back! I dont get it! Do they sense my distaste and want to torture me? LOL.

Cat lovers are probably thinking "why on earth does this person not find cats fabulous!" Well they are kind of creepy and unhygienic the way they can walk on kitchen counters after digging through litterboxes and killing plague carrying vermin, and shed fur in the butter dish. I stuff right up, get itchy eyes, and want to wash my hands after being in a cat house. lol. They are aloof and independent and poop in my garden. My dog does not go into the fenced yard across the street and poop in their strawberry patch. Yet their cat does that to my yard. Nothing can keep the cats out of the yard - so they are a socially rude pet. People who own cats shrug and think "oh well" when they know their cats are pooping in other peoples yards thinking "what can you do" This would never be acceptable for a dog to do. "Oh well Rover crapped in the Jones strawberries, what can one do" Shrug Shrug. If my dog passing by the lawn, on a walk, pooped on that persons lawn edge I would be expected to immediately pick it up. Yet somehow it isnt right for me to phone Mrs Jones and request her to come dig all the cat turds out of my garden bed for me. Yep not a cat fan, I think they should have stayed, lions and tigers and never been domesticated. lol

Dogs always want to either show me immense amounts of affection or stare me down (creepy) LOL. I dont know why I find a dog stare of a strange dog unnerving but I do .

We have both cats and dogs (and always have), though I am partial to dogs. Our late calico cat, Pocahontas, was a great ‘watch’ cat. She loved our dogs and all humans (except vets) dearly. Pokie was the official school bus meeter and greeter. Every day she would wait at the bus stop for the neighborhood kids to come home, rain or shine. She was also the bane of any dog who tried to potty in our front yard. If a dog dared to ‘use the facilities’ in our yard she would dash out and give the offending pooch a swat on the hinder quarters. Pocahontas passed in January at the age of 14. For the first time in many years I have to battle yellow spots in my grass from urine burn and pick up poop from neighbor’s dogs who feel they are exempt from both neighborhood covenants and city law to clean up after their pooches. There are products on the market to discourage cats from treating your garden as a giant litter box; but I have yet to find a product that will deter negligent neighbors.
Ah ha, now you see that the cat is not domesticated. A cat can sense your disdain, and they revel in it. Dogs just want to love and please their humans. Cats own thier humans and will show love if and when they choose then swat you in the face when they finish purring just so you don't think you deserve the affection you just got.
I love cats. Attitude and all. I watched many a cat approach my husband who wasn't thrilled at all while I begged for the furry little things to come to me. Then my own cats who did the same, spreading of every last hair on their body onto my allergic friends skin , nose and eyes even though they had just been locked in another room and pulled a secret feline ninja move to escape just to torture the poor weeping victim. All with a cheshire cat type grin sporting those oh so slanty green eyes of theirs.
Makes me miss mine!

ROTFL!! AND YOU LIKE THEM??!!!
I get along with cats or dogs...love dogs a little more...but cats are okay..We had a neighbor who had a shih-tzu and a cat...every day ..three xs a day...the dog and cat were walked on leashes. When the dog was out on it's tie out, the cat was out on their tie out. It was the most amazing thing I ever saw for a cat, when I talked with their owners they told me, "They had to teach the cat to love being on a leash because 1. it was not fair to their dog to be tied but not the cat, I really loved their second reason....2. it was not fair to their cat to say they loved it, but let it go play in traffic unattended and get ran over, for an outside cat, and 3. it was not fair to keep the cat confined in just the house, while the dog got to play outside, so in thier opinion their cat had to learn manners also.
I like that!
LMAO...you are hilariosu!

I hear ya! I'm not a fan of the way cats just demand what they want...in a VERY different way that dogs do.
Once I house sat for the summer for a couple who had a cat that turned me off to ALL PETS for years! She was constantly weaving between my legs so that I could barely walk through the house without tripping. And then she just ADORED me even though I had NO such feelings toward her in the least.

In the kitchen I'd push her away and she'd slide down the linoleum (please note the push was not harsh or hurtful) and she'd simply come back for MORE. Serious co-dependency in this feline! Later I realized she probably thought it was a FUN game where she got to slide and I was the provider of this fun. Grrrrr.
LOL! You know that cartoon where Pepe Le Pewh is romancing the cat he thinks is a skunk. How forceful he is... LOL....that is the scenario with the cat loving you when you really dont want to be loved this way. LOL
I can sympathize completely. I have always been more of a dog person but tolerant of cats except that I have gotten increasingly allergic to them as I have gotten older. Then last September, Steve and I were walking minding our own business when a cat came flying out of the bushes and attacked my leg first and then jumped on Steve. I have never heard Steve scream so loud. The cat then chased us almost a block. It is a year later and I still have scars in the shape of fang marks and scratches that will probably never go away. My leg swelled up so bad I couldn't go to work the next day and I had to take antibiotics and get a tetnus shot. Animal control quarantined the cat and the owner got it back after it tested negative for rabies. It really upsets me that people let their cats roam free but I get yelled at if my dog is off the leash for a few minutes just playing in the yard with me standing right there.
OMG how scary! I never even fathomed a "cat attack"!
Your post is really funny and I see many of your points, but I have a close friend who feels the exact opposite.

She was so sad when I got a dog. She had an indoor cat for 17 yrs who recently passed away.

Here is how she sees it:

My backyard is a minefield if I don't stay on top of poop pickup. She had a little box in her house she cleaned 2x a day.

Her white blouses get dirty pawprints when she comes over to say hi before work. Her cat would not deign to step in filth.

On the same vein, my dog digs and rolls in filth. Her cat would never do such a thing and even her former outdoor cats had no love of stinky things the way dogs do.

My house is now louder than before...kids scream, dog barks. Her cat left the room when kids entered it.

I "have to" pay someone to wash and trim my dog. Her cat washed itself and NEVER stank.

My dog steals food. Her cat couldn't jump on the counters for the past five years...too old. And it was just too small to eat a whole pizza anyway ;-)

My dog needs to come with the family or go to a dog sitters if I leave for a day. She left her kitty in my 1-visit-a-day care for over a week (yes, there were turds in her bed for revenge that time...lol).

Hmmm what else.

About half of kids under five are scared of Porter. No one was scared of Tori.

I LOVE MY DOGGIE and bff likes him with reservations...just wanted to share her opinions :-)
