Our 7 1/2 Labradoodle, Riley will be getting his 1st haircut next week. We don't want them to cut him like a poodle. He definetly needs a trim because of the hot weather in South Carolina but we are afraid they will cut him to short. What should I tell the groomer? He has only had his face and feet trimed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Nancy,
Thank you for tip on the grooming group and taking pictures to the groomer. I hadn't heard about the longer coat keeping the dog cool and from getting sunburned. I will consider this before his first cut. I am new to Doodle Kisses and I glad I signed up.
Robin
Definitely check out the grooming group. You'll find lots of discussions, pics, and links in there. Like Nancy said, taking pictures of other doodles will help.
Hey Robin. We live in Mississippi, and it has been over 100 degrees for the past few weeks. I didn't necessarily want to get Wrigley a summer cut, but I knew that she needed one. We took her last Friday, and they cut her really short. At first, all I could do was laugh b/c she didn't look like our puppy! She looked so skinny and her legs were so long! Then I saw how much she loved the cut. I mean, she really flaunted it! It must've really felt good to have that hair off of her. It hasn't been quite a week yet, but we've gotten used to the new Wrigley. It's not my favorite look for her, but again, I can tell it feels so much better for her. I posted some pictures on my page. Good luck!
It has been so hot here and feel sorry for him with all the hair. Good to know your Wrigley liked his cut. I know Riley will look the same skinny and with long, long legs. He looks that way when hets wet from his bath and swimming.
We found this "Doodle Do Instruction" sheet on Doodlekisses. You will need to copy and paste this link: http://doodlekisses.com/forum/attachment/download?id=2065244%3AUplo...
It was very helpful for us. You will find pictures on my page of Toby's FIrst Grooming dated 022009. I took in this sheet as a reference. And I specifically told the groomer "no poodle cut". We thought she did an excellent job. She keeps a copy of the sheet in his file. I also took about three pictures of other doodles that I wanted her to reference so she would know exactly what look I was looking for. We just had him groomed again on June 8, quite a bit shorter because he was getting matted, but she still did a very good job. The February grooming she cut him to 2 inches, the June grooming she cut him to 1/4" because of the tangles. Good luck! And be very specific about what you expect and I'm sure Riley will be adorable.
Thanks for posting this link. I took Bailey - with fear and trepidation - for her first grooming yesterday. I printed this and took it with me. It worked great and she's beautiful. She's really curly so with her hair blow dried she looks like a great big fuzzball!
