Hello All! I am really hoping someone has a suggestion for me. We have an invisible fence for Hunter that we started using about 6 weeks ago. It is the Innotek Contain & Train, I did a ton of research and because my husband is very mechicanically inclined he could install it himself. We went through the training and everything was perfect, Hunter stayed in the fence didn't try to leave etc. etc UNTIL last week. Now all of a sudden when the nextdoor neighbor brings his dog out to walk she runs through the fence, well not really "runs" - she is actually STOPPING while she gets shocked (you can see her twitching!!) and then as soon as it stops after 8 seconds I think THEN she runs over there. Now up until then she would see them out and she would just lay there and watch them and not try to run.
I have made sure her collar is on properly, the battery is charged, the fence is working properly (according to the tester thing). I put the longer prongs on the collar since she is furry and did cut her fur on her neck so the connection was correct...... STILL didn't work. Finally I turned the fence on HIGH - and STILL the same thing!!
Now my father-in-law has a Brittney Spaniel who has the same fence, he brought her over to make sure its actually doing what its supposed to and she yelped like she was being murdered! I felt terrible because her "field" is longer and when she hears the beep she has more room before the "shock" than I had set up on Hunters. OOpps poor Brittsey! Does anyone have any suggestions?
LOL! I am waiting for Hunter's new collar to come in the mail and ever since Monday night when my father in law brought his collar over and it worked correctly she hasn't even looked at the neighbors yard! One jolt was all it took as a reminder. Hopefully once I get my new working collar she won't have it happen anymore. I had a feeling something wasn't right somewhere because when we first got it she yelped. I know they are a bit of a controversy but I think people can only go by their experiences and what works for some people might not work for others. I am really glad yours has worked so well! We did the same thing as you did with my father in law so that his dog can visit us to play and vise versa :-)
i can't get Neely to go over it for a walk out the lane! We have to lift and carry this 60 pd baby(my boys do that) or I just pull the leash tight to me and he practically walks on my feet and I say hurry up and walk really fast. But he is scared coming in or out collar or not on. I have had to put him in the car drive out over the fence then let him out on the other side.
That's exactly how my dogs are. You know I don't want to push the issue so that is what I do - I drive them out and then we go for a walk and I drive them back in. I don't want to risk anything.
LOL!! That is what I wanted to have happen with Hunter instead with the "defective collar" she could stand there and take it and then run! Now with the new collar I have the feeling all will be well :-)
This is a bummer but do call Innotek. I have the same system. It's probably the Innotek 5100. I absolutely Love it. Innotek is very good about helping with problems. Fergie and Lucy won't even go thru it with there collars off and on a leash with me. I have to drive them through. I do sympathyze with you. Not all people can have "chain link" fences. For me they are not at all allowed! Keep working with this and I'm sure you'll resolve the problem. Do you still have the flags up? Maybe you could try putting them up and walking her around like the beginning.
You know I think once I get the new collar I am going to put the flags back up - only the side where our neighbors are - that has been the only area I have had a problem and even then its only when they walk there dog. Good idea! Innotek was SUPER helpful :-)
