I ordered this bowl and it will be here on Monday. Hopefully my washing machine won't break down from washing so many mop-up towels before it arrives! When he's not moaning in ecstasy over his chewy things, Leo is one of many who participate in water bowl mania, jumping in his bowl and digging out all of the offensive water and dumping it on my hardwood floor. (And then I'm the one doing the growling!) Anyway, I found this bowl online....I think it was developed by the German Shepherd breeder who has the website. It looks like it is going to be just the ticket. There's a short video that explains how it works. I should wait until it gets here to post this so I can tell you how great it works (oh please please please!!) but I couldn't wait to tell someone. (Are any of the rest of you puppy owners having this issue? You know, like new parents where you even think your kid's bathroom habits are interesting?) Anyway, the bowl should be here on Monday. I have been saying since the day after Leo arrived that all I need in life is for someone to make a water bowl that he can't splash with....did I get my wish? I'll let you know for sure on Monday!!

Good luck. It's an interesting concept. Keep us updated!!!
That looks like an interesting concept, but I'm pretty sure it would freak Toby out! He's not the boldest of dogs, and the moving piece would disturb him, and I'm almost postive he wouldn't stick his nose down into the narrow space created by the black ring to get a drink. But I hope it works for your dog!
I can't wait to hear! Murphy does the exact same thing!! Both paws in and digging, water flying everywhere! Then he runs around the house with wet paws and ears spraying water everywhere! He used to do the same thing with his dry food - scoop it out all over the floor then eat it - but I started making it a bit wet and he doesn't do it anymore.
I checked out the web site - looks interesting!! If this helps limit the water on the floor from soggy beards, I will be the next one ordering this bowl. Please DO keep us posted.
It's HERE!!! It arrived early! So far so good. Everyone drinks out of it with no problem - our Doodle Leo and the two small dogs. Leo seems a little disappointed in it - there's nothing to splash and water has now lost its allure. I also noticed a distinct lack of beard dripping. Since the dish has only been here for a couple of hours, I'll update you all again in a couple of days, but so far it appears to do everything it promises to do. It appears that it was originally designed as a travel bowl. My only concern is that you can't actually see how much water is left in the bowl and it might be easy to overlook the fact that it's empty. Since we live in a cool climate where 70 degrees is a heat wave, if we make it a habit to refill every morning that should not pose much of a problem. (I'm used to having one of those self watering bowls so am not used to checking it so often!)
I just ordered one from Amazon--the price is lower $18.84 and if you order $25 total you can get free shipping.
That's what I get for ordering at 1 a.m. when I couldn't sleep! You ordered the exact same bowl. So far so good. Leo has plopped his paws into it but he can't dig the water out of it and send it flying. I looked at the neaterfeeder but he would still be able to splash and dig in that. At least this way he's limited to only slopping the water he gets on his paws!
Okay Lori - after having it for a week, do you still like it as well??
Mostly yes, I still like it as well. It definitely keeps Leo from splashing. He tries, but about the worst that can happen is he gets his feet wet! However, my concern about it not holding enough water was well founded. I refill it two-three times a day. The outer lip is hard to take off. I tried using it without the lip but within about 24 hours Leo wised up to that and made a big mess because he could jump in it better. All of that said, it is STILL way better than mopping up a six foot square area several times a day because of Leo's water sports! And last but not least....I discovered that our local pet store (and we live in a VERY small community) carries the same bowl for $16.99! They also had another style that appears to hold more water, but it came with a bigger price tag. Still, I may try the other one. SO....if you want to look for it is called a "Road Refresher Portable Pet Bowl". For anyone who travels in a motor home, it would be perfect!
that's good to know - Abby drinks lots of water so the bigger one would be better - if I can find it here in any of our local pet stores - what pets store do you have? A big name one or a small private owned one? (I would assume private?) Was the larger bowl from the ame company, too? Thanks
The bigger bowl was made by a different company and looked different....not quite sure how it works. I didn't have time to look it over when I was in there. Our local store is a small independent store. There's always Amazon if you really want it...you can order two at the same time and get free shipping that way!
How do you get the outer rim off? I still haven't managed that.
