Hi all,
In reading one of the blogs many of you were saying how much your doodles love their kong. We have just made last minute weekend plans renting a condo @ the shore. The home owner was nice enough to let me bring Duffy along. My fear is Duffy is not going to be happy left in his crate in a strange place ( he barks like crazy when we leave our house & is left behind in his crate). I don't want to leave him barking & disturbing the other people on vacation. Please tell me about kong & what you stuff it with & any other suggestions you might have on what to leave him with to keep him busy.
We got the small Kong for Zoe when she was a puppy. I put Peanut butter and treats inside it and it keeps her busy for a little while. I need to graduate to the bigger one now.
I use the Kongs that are "round" not the cone shape. The dogs have to squeeze, bump,or drop the treats out.
I put a mix of things in the Kong, lil chomper treats, carrots, apples (cut up). I make it hard for the dogs to get the treats out.
I do not use Peanut butter or the Kong cheese you can buy.
My dogs love their kongs.
Kong makes many treat toys in many different shapes, configurations and sizes....We have the cone and the red bone......Peanut butter and doggie cookies are the treat of choice but Kong actually makes their own "spreads" in many flavors...They come in a tube and can be squeezed into the Kong.....I've never used the stuff....Can't be sure what's really in it and it makes me nervous....A friend of mine fills their doodles Kong with cream cheese....Truthfully that makes me nervous as well because I'm not sure how good cream cheese is for doggie tummies.....But no matter what you put in it, the Kong keeps dogs busy for quite awhile and for a doodle it's probably like a puzzle for them....I always say that I wish they made a Rubics Cube for doodles..because it's almost as if that's the complexity of what they need to be challenged, kept busy and entertained....
I bought the puppy Kong that is about the same size as the "regular" or "original" red cone shaped one--for when Rosco was a pup. It's supposed to be less tough. But I don't think you really need a 'puppy' Kong. The regular is fine. However, mine were ONLY interested in it IF it had something yummy inside.
I've put in low fat vanilla yogurt and sealed both ends with peanut butter then froze it! They LOVE that!
