I am here wondering if elk antlers smell as the dogs are gnawing on cow hooves . They hooves definitely smell once the dogs get going on them. To me they smell like the cow excreted them rather than walked on them! I know from reading the posts that bully sticks can be a major smell offense. So now I'm thinking of antlers :) I'm also thinking of all the money being made on otherwise useless "parts".
NO! I can't smell them at all and I have a sensitive nose. I spent $20 on two, about 3 months ago. They are still intact and pretty much the same size. Of course the pups fight over one of them....it has more marrow than the other. I highly suggest finding one with more marrow.
You will not be sorry. They don't get all gross like hooves, etc...
Plus big pieces don't come off, they don't splinter, I could go on and on.
No odor at all, I bought one a month ago. Lexi Doodle can take it or leave it. She would rather have a marrow bone but we do not let her chew those too often. The 7" Antler I purchased was $11.99 plus shipping, a bit pricey for scrap antler but wife says nothing is too costly as long as it keeps Lexi happy.
I bought one for my dood, a large halved elk antler. It stank terribly! Possibly because it was sliced in half making more of the insides available for chewing? However, I have bought several deer antlers without any smell issues. Go figure. Maybe the elk was just particularly stinky!
It does not smell at all!! Mine lasted about a month, and once it got small enough to fit in her mouth, I threw it away and gave her a new one. I think mine was $7.99 or $8.99 or something like that, too. I used to give my Bully stick and hooves. Yes they do smell pretty bad. Elk Antelers are not like that at all!!
Antlerz do not smell at all. Notice the spelling. This brand has been heat santized, etc. There are also others like that. Don't go for the cheap, they can carry bacteria and they will smell after chewing. I just received two new Antlerz in the mail for my two champion chewers. The first two lasted over a year. The only other thing that is close to as indestructible is zogoflex. Antlerz are apparently more enticing to chew, as my two love there zogoflex hurleys (bones) to play, but choose the Antlerz when they want a really good chew session. My two doodles are about 40 pounds each and the large size is not too big for them.
Man I know what you mean about those smelly cow hooves. Ours aren't allowed in the house because it ends up smelling like a barn!!!! Glad you asked this question.
