Does anyone have any experience with Cockpoos?? We would MAYBE like to add another doggie to our family but two doodles the same size as ours would be a bit "crowded" shall I say. I saw a cockapoo the other day-I actually though it was a medium or mini doodle. He was sooo cute and seemed very well behaved. Any info is appreciated.
Maybe you could try the rescue route and go with an adult dog. That way you would know the size, you would know the temperment, and you would know if it were mouthy! Or find a Cockapoo rescue organization and foster for them and see how it goes!
I've been looking at rescues-but we don't want an older dog. Thomas may hurt the poor thing. To fit in here, the dog must be "tough" and want to play a lot with his future bro; Thomas the 83 lb. puppy-like doodle.
I had a cockapoo for many (16) years. Bob was nearly perfect. In fact one reason I chose a doodle was because of similarities to Bob. He weighed 20 pounds and was very healthy until his old age. He was smart, obedient, happy & non shed. Bob is the apricot one, the other is Joe a Bichon. Oh yeah, and excuse the 80's look, it was the 80's!
Honey is a Medium GoldenDoodle...she goes 37 lbs, and is half the size of Hannah. There are Medium and Mini GoldenDoodles. I have also pet sat for several Cockapoos, they are okay if you like the Cocker Spaniel temperment mixed in with the Poodle. Most Cockers have issues with being home alone for any length of time, they can also be very distructive to furniture and homes if left alone to long. Some Cockapoos can also look more like the Cocker Spaniel. I'm not sure about the shedding issues, Cocker Spaniels hair will grow in quicker than the mix with the Poodle. Cocker Spaniel's are more prone to ear infections and ulcers in their ears, and that is one thing that is passed down to Cockapoos. Cockers also are more prone to Cherry eye, Glaucoma and cataracts, Conjunctivitis, Autoimmune diseases which are life threating....if you choose a Cockapoo be certain to check out the breeder and testing they have done.
Well, so far I agree with what everyone else is saying. I have two friends that love their Cockapoos but I think it is only because they've never owned a Labradoodle :) I think getting a mini Labradoodle would be best for you because they will have the same play style. I know our Doodles take other types of dogs by surprise because their play style is so unique and every new Doodle we get fits right in. They just are so compatible.
Hope this helps but I'm sure you'll make the right decision for your home. Best of luck!

I love my cockapoos! My first dog was a cockapoo, around 30lbs and the love of my life. That't why I went looking for another when my boy had to be put down at 16years of age. Buddy was only to be about 40lbs, but has reached 60, and I never thought I could love another dog the way I did my first, but boy he is special to me. I will always have one given the choice. I was looking for a second cockapoo when I found Kona my labradoodle, they love each other and have ton's of fun together. Couldn't be happier then having one of each, if you have anything specific you would like to ask me please feel free :)

Gina, I was hoping you would add your thoughts. I think Buddy is such a great dog and so well trained that people need to hear about him. Of course there is a problem with poorly bred cockers, so, like a responsible buyer of any dog, one needs to find a reputable breeder.
Hi Gina, I have been waiting for you to comment as Adina told me about "Buddy". I have never seen a cockapoo that big. He is just beautiful. We actually don't want a really small dog. Our Wheaton was around 35 lbs. and that was a great size. Can I ask what your LD Kona weighs? They look compatable in size.
