If you didn't have a Doodle...what kind of dog would you have?

I'm curious...what type of dog would you have gotten if you didn't get a doodle? Or are there other pure breeds you love?

Me? Well...I love athletic short hair breeds like Weimaraners and Pointers. I have also recently been interested in smooth coated Collies and love the big dorky mellow Great Danes. Belgian Malinois are kinda neat looking. And some English Mastiffs are just adorable. Oh and one day I think it would be fun to have a sighthound like a Saluki or Borzoi. Love St. Bernard's but don't ever want the drool. Finally...if I could guarantee I'd get one with a perfect temperament I think I'd like a pit bull. I love how athletic they look and their drive when it is harnessed for good. But I'm still a little afraid of them...

Love my Giant cockapoo and would have another in a heartbeat! Always wanted a Portuguese waterdog, would love to someday add one to the family.

The breed we also love and live with is the Patite Bassett Griffon Vendeen or PBGV or as my kids call it Peanut Butter and Jelly :). My husband actually said to find another for us when we started looking for our next dog...they have the most unusual vocabulary..like Vvvarroomf means let me out! and aauummfff means I smell steak! Great family dogs...and to me pretty darn cute, but and long story short "I" fell in love with the doodle looking for pbgv's online searching under family friendly pbgv and good with kids! (Guess what popped up under this search...the Doodle!) Could not be happier!

We had a Petite Basset Griffon Vendeen years ago too. You don't see many of them around. We named ours Fred. I loved the look of him and his mellow disposition, (mellow...shesh...what an energy level...he was practically like one of the throw pillows). His natural odor was the least fragrant of all of our dogs...(whewie! Anyplace Fred went was a "good place for a stick up").
After our standard poodles and doodles I think I am spoiled for all other dogs!...with a condition...It took us months to find a family of standard poodles that were exactly what we wanted...intelligence is a given with standard poodles, but we wanted large ones with a robust and athletic appearance and greater substance of bone than is commonly seen these days...and, most of all...MELLOWNESS! We saw a disturbing amount of hyperactivity out there, and it's a trait we find hard to live with.
After the observant cleverness, ardent devotion and sense of humor of our poodles I can't imagine feeling quite the draw for another breed...and we've had many.
I am attaching a picture of my Yulie's face...a big standard that I have an enduring crush on! The rest of him pleases me greatly as well, but this is the end I smooch!

I honestly don't think I'd ever get a dog that wasn't a doodle! I have looked at Portugese Water Dogs & PBGVs and have owned labs and corgis. I guess I should just say after lots of searching I already own the perfect dogs for me!!!

We couldn't have another breed, so I don't even think about it! Our ALD is the only one that I works with DH's allergies. We never thought we could have a dog -- and what terrific luck for us to find the Australian Multi-gen LD AND to have it be a wonderful family pet in every other way too!
I grew up with a GS pointer and a black lab. I love the labs, the GSP was a bit high strung for me. I don't like the smell or the shedding or the drool factor for most other breeds, although I love to see them and visit with them at the beach!

I was thinking about getting a King Charles Cavilier. There is one in our neighborhood and he is soooo cute ! But everybody else in the family wanted a bigger dog so I found goldendoodles and I am so glad I did !

This is a great thread! With my husband's allergies, I thought all dogs were out, so we were just thrilled to find our labradoodle at the pound! But, I've always loved cocker spaniels, border collies and golden retrievers.

We had an amazing Bernese Mountain Dog when I was growing up...who I still miss like CRAZY :( so I have always had a special love for the BMD...but not sure if I could ever do the hair!

I absolutely love Newfies and Great Pyres.....Before I developed allergies I had wanted one of each. Before I rescued Blake, I almost adopted a deaf Great Pyre from rescue...She was a big, sweet, mushy lovergirl but I started sneezing and wheezing within 5 minutes of meeting her and I could not adopt her.....Thankfully a friend of mine ended up adopting her........Now that I have a Doodle, I don't think I would want any other breed of dog....

Someone should consider breeding Newfiepoos and Pyrepoos! What a great combo!
