Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We were surprised when we got Darwin that most people we see think he is a Wheaten. There is the occasional person who knows he's a Goldendoodle, but 90% do not. We've even had Wheaten owners come up and excitedly start talking to us about Wheatens! It's pretty comical.

Luca was often mistaken for a Wheaten. now that Calla is with us people just ask me what kind of dogs they are.
Quite often Gracie Doodle does get mistaken. I just don't see how, but she does. Obviously, they don't really know what a Wheaten looks like. Gracie is 70 lbs and tall. She has a beautiful long plume tail and long ears. Her hair is very soft and wavey...not wooly at all. She is very deep chested and stands tall and proud. Wheatens are much shorter, have short little ears, a short tail, barrel body with no chest definition. The only thing that even comes close to being the same is possibly the hair. She has also been mistaken for an Airedale and once as an Irish Wolfhound. All the time people think she is a Labradoodle but when I tell them she is a Goldendoodle they sort of look funny at me. More people have heard of Labradoodles than Goldendoodles!!!
Hey, I forgot something...Gracie Doodle and I had a meet up with Ned Doodle (DK member) who is an ALD. While we were at the park we saw a Wheatdoodle. It turned out the two owners got him from Craigs List of all things and were having a heck of a time with him. He was very agressive and totally out of control. They were older people and I don't think they had a clue what they were getting into!!!! I was reminded of this after reading all of your comments about how Wheatens are not very friendly!!
I know they were signed up for classes - that dog needed private training - I hope they did that!
Annie is Labradoodle, but people think she is either that,Wheaten or goldendoodle.
