I laughed when I saw the slide show theme for this week which calls for pics of doodles and their non-dog friends--If my doods were anywhere near a hamster--it would be lunch! Same for cats, birds, etc. The closest I have come to this was when Mattie caught and killed a squirrel and carried it around the backyard for a few hours. When I tried to get it back, she swallowed it in one gulp!!! So, we won't be putting any pics in the slide show this week! I'm sure there are others who have had the same experience!

OMG! Swallowed a squirrel?! Then what? Don't leave me hangin'!
LOL---poor squirrely.

Actually the slide show is of doodles and their other animal friends--which CAN include doggies =)
Glad I just saw this 'cause I don't have the picture of Ned flushing the bird that died of fright with me (doodle friend) in my pj's using a shovel (like a lion tamer with a whip) holding Ned back AND holding the other dog's leash to keep him (the true bird flusher) back also. This picture would have been total humiliation for me and hilarious to Ned! Much better to have Ned with Gracie doodle, and Springer brother and Springer friends plus old man Simon.
I'm not sure if a squirrel swallowed in one gulp is better or worse than a very dead one deposited on the living room floor by a drowned rat looking dog. Neither is very appealing. Needless to say my camera was not ready nor was I and I don't think that Luca and said squirrel qualified as friends, anyway.
Oh, doggie friends? I can do that! Yes, she swallowed the squirrel whole and it had absolutely no effect on her digestion. My vet said that it must be the lab in her! She caught another squirrel, but we got that one away--well, most of it. I also found the remains of a rabbit in the yard and Mattie had quite a bit of digestive distress from that meal. i think she has pretty much cleared the yard of wild animals for now.
That not only keeps the varmint population down but saves on dog food. Ugh!
There was also a nest of baby bunnies in our bushes--why a rabbit felt OUR yard was a good place to raise her young, I will never know--but I did get them out of harm's way as soon as the dogs discovered them. The babies went off to a local wildlife rehab place and got to grow up and go back to the woods. Never a dull moment when you live in the sticks!
Hey another doodle after Lucy's own heart. She LOVES bunnies. I don't have a pic of that one either, glad I don't, I was horrified. I think she cleared out a whole nest of bunnies. My DH was not a happy camper.
Mine would love to get a squirrel, but so far they are batting 0, thank goodness. They did catch a mouse, but thankfully they listened to the"leave it" and backed off. They were really fast and the mouse never had a chance. Mouse dead, but not a meal.
