Baker is quite affectionate & wants to be with his family all the time, but I've noticed one thing...whenever he lies down next to one of us, he will turn his back to us. His butt is always much closer than his head :)

Do your doodles do this? Any idea what it means in dog body language?

that is really cute :) what a sweet dog
Timbow does the same thing. I agree with Jane though, I think he's just watching out for you. :-)
Timbow turns his back or he acts like Noah? I'd love it if Baker would put his head on my lap, but he'll do it just for a second & then turns around...so I end up petting his hip with the tail drifting around :)
Timbow turns his back just like Barker. Every once in a while he will put his head on my lap, but normally he will turn his back to me. Almost like he is sitting on me. :)
Baker is 10 months old...like Noah, when he was much younger, he would wriggle away & act like he wanted nothing to do with us. That has dramatically changed & I think you're right...they get friendlier as they age. We couldn't be happier with him,..like Timbow, he plops his 70# body down on my hip when we're on the couch. It's such fun to see how similar they are, isn't it? I appreciate your comments, thank you:)
It is funny and when I was writing that last comment he was doing it. I know Timbow likes to have his head resting on something and normally when he gets in this position it means his head is resting on the arm rest of the couch. He might prefer this rather than my lap because it doesn't move...I can be a wiggler until I'm comfy. :)
Gracie Doodle too wants to be with us all the time. She will come in and out of a room when we are in different rooms and put her head in my lap and then go back and do the same with my husband. Then she will turn and lean her hip into us. She also does this when we are standing. She comes up for a kiss and then turns and leans against our legs but more with her hip. I always tell people she is "hugging" us! In bed she will come up between us if we have her ball and we play rolling it back and forth to each other with her in the middle snatching it away. When we are all done she will let me put my arms around her and snuggle for a while but she always moves to the foot of the bed with her butt leaning against my hip or legs and facing the end of the bed. She also likes to come over when I am sitting on the sofa or an armless chair but sort of leaning forward. She will sort of straddle my legs and lay her tummy on my lap. I think my 70 lb. tall standard Doodle wants to be a lap dog!!
OMG!! Sophie does this ALL THE TIME! Even when sitting on the couch with me (yes I let her on the couch) she has her back to me- she always sits perched so she can see the windows or the entryways. She is more obvious about her intentions at night- she HAS to be able to see the door to the bedroom when we first go to bed. In the middle of the night I will find her lying on her back or with her head under the bed, but she ALWAYS has to see out the door when everything is winding down.. Maybe she IS on the lookout?! I never really thought about it.
Same thing here! It has been a puzzle to me too. Or he'll stand next to me and lean on me. He does not really care to look at me unless he's doing one of those intent stares into my eyes which I still have not figured out either! He is VERY social (co-dependant even) and loves to be with us all the time so it's not that he does not like us.
