I wasn't going to see this movie anyway because I would just be a wreck the entire time, but this was brought to my attention today.
If you were going to go see the movie, I would reconsider. The crew is being investigated for animal abuse. Watch the one minute video in the article if you can stomach it.

The director also tweeted that he was disgusted by the crews behavior and all I could think of is, "Really? You didn't know that you were going to throw a dog in turbulent water?"
Comment from the article: "What is clear from viewing all the footage was that the dog was NEVER forced into the water." From what I could see, it looked like he was, but I am so happy that Hercules is OK.
You're right, we did not get the whole picture. However, the part I find most unacceptable is that they tried this is the first place. You should not throw an untrained GSD in turbulent water. GSDs aren't even supposed to have webbed feet... who knows if this one did or not. I would perhaps have found it more okay if they had a trained Newfoundland do the scene, but again, I still think that puts the animal in an unnecessary risk situation for the sake of our entertainment.

My take is that I am not going to trust the words of Quaid or any other person associated with the movie whose reputation and career would ride on the abuse allegations. So of course they are going to spin it for the greater good. I refuse to see the movie, not that I was planning on it anyway.
My thoughts exactly, Amy.
I saw this clip on the news last week. Very disturbing. I will not be going to see it either, read the book, that's enough.
