We all know dog parks can be a little (or a lot) iffy at times. Well I found a new park and have gone there quite a few times since. It is spacious, has fun agility equipment, all the owners have been attentive and nice, and the dogs have all been accepting and playful. Such a great change from some parks! Ragley loves it and she has begun to recognize when we are on our way and gets so excited!
Weeeelllll...we went again today and had a blast, BUT then this guy pulls up with three dogs. I'm already thinking "wow, that seems like a lot to handle", but turns out they were all mellow and very friendly dogs. GOOD THING because the guy was on his phone the ENTIRE time we were there and was off away in a corner of the park facing away from all the dogs. I could have taken all three of them and driven off and he would have had no idea. Well, the real problem was that one of the dogs he brought had a huge mass (tumor maybe?) on one of his sides so I was thinking "poor guy", but then he turns and he has a giant gaping hole of a wound on his other side! Like, pink flesh open and exposed to the world! I was immediately concerned mostly for the dog (can you say infection risk??) but then also for Ragley and the others in the park. Who knows what kind of bacteria he is carrying if this is the kind of care he is receiving? Am I crazy? What on earth is happening here?
The owner was so clueless to the world that I was able to take some good pics to share with my DK peeps haha

OMG - I feel so sorry for that poor dog !!! Neglect is a crime !!
If it was a growth, then it probably wasn't contagious. But yikes, I sure would want to know WHAT it was and that the dog was both 'ok' and non-contagious. Are there any conditions under which you would NOT want to cover something like that or do something besides let it all hang out in the open air?
I don't know of any conditions in which leaving it uncovered like that in a public place such as a park would be appropriate. I just kept envisioning what would happen if he laid down on the mulch or lounged in the coveted mud hole near the water bowls. Makes me cringe.
That would freak me out. Well, I am freaked out and just from the photo. And maybe there is some explanation but I can't believe this dog should be at a dog park under any circumstances.
That is exactly what I was thinking and is why we promptly left for the day
WTH? Oh my gosh!
This saddens me.
