Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

so my goldendoodle is 1 year and 7 months old.. this past week he has been so bad!! he was sooo crazy and nippy and nuts as a puppy, more so then any other puppy i ever had..i almost lost it.. but then he got sooo good at around a year i guess.. and now hes gone bonkers again... jumping nipping and stealing EVERYTHING in the house that he knows he cant have to get attention.. i mean steals remotes out of my hand.. hair clips..mail.. batteries.. and more.. i am going away this weekend for my 2 year wedding anniversary and i was so sad to leave him..but now i cant wait.. lol.. and then i am going away next friday for a week to cancun for my anniversary as well.. my sister in law watches him in my own apartment so he will do great.. but i am wondering if anyone noticed a crazy puppy turn intoa  good puppy then to a crazy adolesent? i know he is still young but it just seems hes lost it this week.. every night i cant even watch tv without having to keep getting up and reprimanding im... nothing has changed.. excersize wise.. or anything.. is he just testing me again? its like he WANTS to get in trouble.. we took his crate out for a few months because we had to bring it away with us and we never put it back.. im thinking i need to bring it back in tonight and start some time outs.. he loves his crate..he chooses to sleep in it when we had it in our room..but i will also usse it in a calm way to give him and me a time out.. oh and he also will not come in side now unless he sees me get a treat ready.. and if i dont give it he wont come in and he runs away.. and i call him in and he stands at the door and looks up at the box of treats like are you gunna get those? then i have to pretend to get them and then i lure him in and then i bring him in living room do a few tricks and then give the treat... this kid is testing me and its working.. any advice is appreciated... thanks in advance xoxo

Quincy is one year, five months- so I just  hope it is not another stage that I will have to go through!  No advice, just good luck!  I am sure someone will comment and help you understand all this and deal with it

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I hope they do not go back to that stage ..my 1st year with Violet... was .. .well ..not good ..she is 15 months now and it has been great !! I am hoping for others to chime in on this with their experience.....so odd with your pup ..anything all different that happend that you can think of at all ??

Definitely testing you--still not grown up by any means--sounds like he needs a training refresher course and remember, training never really ends! Yes, bring the crate back in and yes, make him work for those treats--I often offer a treat as a reward for coming in the house and personally see no issue with that--if it gets him running to the door when you call, then do it! You can become more intermittent with the treats later when he is more reliable at coming in.

Aaahhhh...the teenage years! They can be so strong willed for sure. Bay is 18 months now and going through something similar. I noticed her demanding attention more (my kids are already jeolous of howy much she gets and they dont, lol). Maybe just yet another phase. Be consistent and yes, bring back the crate. She still sleeps in hers all night. Door wide open. Its her haven good luck.

Do you have suitcases out? Are you giving off the dreaded "I'm leaving you" vibe somehow? I know some people start packing pretty early. Dogs can sense when something is up and Midas may be noticing something different is coming. Just guessing, of course.
