I have met a few, and I found every single one anyoying. But then, their owners were annoying too!

They are non-shedding, and can get cold quickly, thats about all I know. Some people say they make great pets... but then people say that about every breed they like...

haha...thanks....

I have a friend with two of them. They are very friendly, but extremely high-strung and pest-y. The male is better tempered than the female. Like all toy dogs, they can be very yappy, hyper, and difficult to housebreak.

Here's some info on the breed: http://www.akc.org/breeds/havanese/

thanks..they look like they have short legs too!  I am not a fan of short legs!

Their legs are not particularly short. The body length is only slightly longer than the height at the withers. But they do have long fur which may make the legs look shorter. They are very very cute dogs, they resemble Maltese terriers, but they're a little larger.

I can tell you that the photo of a particular little white Havanese girl is how I ended up with two doodles.  We had lost our little mini poodle 5 years prior.  We had both spoken the words "never again" for 5 years.  I found myself visiting puppies in Pet Stores and loving every puppy I met on the street.  I had been looking on line and had a virtual Great Dane and a Virtual Yorkie on my computer screen saver and wallpaper.  The Great Dane was Lucy and the Yorkie was Ethel.  I found myself talking about them like they were real!  I was researching breeds (including the Great Dane) and looking at the local paper.  This photo of this little Havanese caught my eye and I kept watching her.  I was silently hooked.  I kept pointing her out to DH who kept saying if you want her, call them, BUT, what about a bigger dog.  I'd really like a bigger dog ... so, I never made the call and started researching larger breeds and fell in love when I saw the GoldenDoodle!  The agreement was we were going to get a GoldenDoodle and then a little Havanese or smaller dog.  We found a breeder of GoldenDoodles, spoke to her on the phone and she told us about Sophie, the runt of the liter.  My thinking was that she would stay smaller (which I now know isn't necessarily true in some cases).  When we arrived, Sophie jumped up in my lap and this little rolly polly black girl jumped up in Mike's lap, and The rest is history.

AWWWW Sweet!

Noooo

ha ha ha

One of our members, Sue Robin, has 2 doodles and an old Havanese. You could try asking her. http://www.doodlekisses.com/profile/Sue28

Two of my friends have them, they are not like many of the other yappy dog breeds. They are super smart and easy to train in every way they really are a sturdy little dog. I was between a havanese and a goldnedoodle. Sometimes the havanese do get that bit of pink near their eyes. That is a deal breaker for me. I think they are a great little dog.

We once bred and showed purebred Maltese and now we specialize in rescuing Maltese.  We have known folks who were Havanese breeders and Havanese rescuers.

The Havanese we have met and who have lived with us (we once fostered a Havanese/Maltese cross) have been very nice dogs who are smart and have a friendly disposition.

We once had a set up at a dog show "Meet The Breed" area and were next to the Havanese rescue.  They were darling dogs.

Not all little dogs are yappy, it depends both on their personalities and their training or lack of training.  As far as ease of housetraining, I think that bigger dogs may be easier to housetrain because they have bigger bladders and don't have to pee as often.  That said, we thought our Goldendoodle, Holly was a "Goldenpuddle" until she reached about three to four months old.  All of a sudden, she learned where (or where not) to pee.  There was no tapering off, she never had an accident.

We have some Rescue Maltese who are totally housetrained, some which are partially housetrained and some which are still learning.  That is why we have tile floors throughout our house and why we have a Hoover Floormate; which is the best thing for cleaning hard floors.
