My goldendoddle Phoenix seems to have a sensitve stomach and his bowel is mostly soft.  Right now we have been feeding him Orijen which is rank pretty high on the list.

Does anyone have other suggestions of some great puppy food choices?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

I just spent 10 minutes searching through the group's past discussions and decided to try "Satin Balls" to put some weight on my skinny dog! I hope hope hope hope hope it works! She's underweight at 22 pounds.
Both my ALD and my Goldendoodle puppies have been on the Orijen Puppy - their stools were very soft also - then I started adding a little bit of Primal - a raw food that comes frozen.  Add that to the top of the kibble and it firmed the poop right up.  There is nothing better in my book than the Orijen.

Hi Jane & Rooney,

Can you give me the actually name of the frozen food and where did you purchase it.

Thanks Aaron

The food is called Primal - I buy it at a specialty dog store in Fort Myers.  It comes in 4 oz patties or 1 oz nuggets.  Many different flavors.

you really shouldnt feed raw and kibble at the same time (especially if most of the food is kibble). It digests at a different rate. Raw food digests much quicker than kibble, so if you feed it together, the raw will sit for much longer in the bowels - going rancid. It can cause an unpleasant smell when the dog poops, and it can cause bacteria to multiply and make your dog sick (and you from picking up the poop if your not super careful).

If you want to feed raw and kibble, either feed one one day and the other the next day (I give Cooper and my cats raw on our days off and kibble on days we work) or give one in the morning, one at night, with 12 hours in between kibble and raw (this can be more difficult to do when you have a puppy and are giving 3 or 4 meals a day). If there will be less than 12 hours between breakfast and dinner, feed the raw in the morning, as it digests quicker.

How old is your puppy and how long have you been feeding the Orijen? what was the puppy eating before? It can take some dogs a while to transition from 1 food to another. Also, if your puppy was eating a high grain food (especially one with lots of corn) then the poop will be much softer. You dont want a rock hard poop, you want it formed but still soft.

You can add canned pumpkin to firm up the stool if ifs runny

check out the food group and the raw feeding group

I agree that the raw feeding group is great if you are interested in raw feeding. Dogs digestive systems are much sturdier than people might think. Although there is some debate about mixing kibble with raw food, if you do a google search and read the research I don't think you will find much evidence to support the idea that it is harmful to your dog or to you.

Thanks Cindy, I was just about to say that.
yeah theres 2 schools of thought on this, and when Cooper was little and being fed 100% raw, we used kibble as treats - and you know how many you go through with training those first few weeks!!! Once I learnt about both schools of thought I decided to errr on the side of caution and feed raw and kibble separately.
I've found that we have had zero issues with mixing the raw & kibble.  I find that there is nothing to support the notion of not mixing.  So in my book you do trail and error and go with what works for you.
My Groodle (golden doodle ) has been raised and fed raw - she is now 18 weeks old and we have experienced no problems. Have a lovely coat, growing slowly ,and poos don't stink, and no stinky wind.
