Does anyone's dood have a black spot on their tongue? We have noticed that Morgan has one on the tip of her tongue now that she did not have when she was small. I tried to do a little research on it before I call the vet, just to see if it could be something we should be concerned about. And I thought I'd also consult the professionals here at DK!
I've seen those on a couple of dogs--but I think that usually those spots are supposed to be there from birth (and genetic and not harmful) but I'm not 100% sure.
Some of the Goldendoodles from Bill & Betty have a black spot on their tongue. But they are born with it, If this spot is new, I would have your vet look at.
My Ginger has several on top and bottom of her tongue. She had them when I adopted her. I was told that they are like a birthmark and are born with them. If Morgan's just appeared, I think you should check with the vet.
What The Research Says...
Black spots on a dog's tongue are simply "beauty marks", similar to freckles on people. They are merely places that have extra pigment than other places on the tongue -- that's all! Consider it your dog's own birthmark.
Dogs often have spots of dark pigment on their skin, too. If you check the skin underneath their thick coat of fur, you will probably notice spots -- which can be large or small, many or few.
My Kachi has a large black spot on the side of his tongue. I practically had a heart attack when I first noticed it, but the vet said it is nothing to worry about.
Joy, I'd see that vet. It's probably nothing, and please don't worry, but it needs to be looked at if it wasn't there before. Hopefully, it will end up being nothing and you can be mad at me for telling you to go. You'll feel better
