Bum DRAG!!

Ok, Does the bum drag always mean gland problems?  Ginger, bless her heart, has come inside twice now, and done the bum drag!!!!  What else could it be?    (sometimes I can't believe the things I wrtie here)

I think it almost always has to do with their anal glands. We had a dog that scooted and she always had to get her anal glands expressed. It is not that big of a deal, but it STINKS!!

I've found it's either that their anal glands need to be expressed or they have a little "poop" that needs to be cleaned off.  This sometimes happens with Guinness....he'll do this even if it's just the smallest piece of "poop" that got stuck on him. Once I clean it, he's fine.  I'd check for that before going to the Vet.

I agree with Jane, sometimes it just means they could use a little wiping back there, and the carpet is their version of toilet paper. This is especially likely if the poop is not very firm. Jack does this too when he needs a little clean-up. I have the groomer clean up the fur around the area, to put it politely.

I get my groomer to give Sunny this cut too, it's called a "sanitary cut".

It could be worms, anal glands, or just needing to wipe! Sunny did the bum drag a few times when she had a little piece of poo or a leaf stuck to her.

Anal glands or a piece of poop stuck to the fur back there!   The stuck poop happens to Shelby every once in a while and it usually results in a butt bath!   She wrote a blog post about her first butt bath.... if you need a laugh - visit our page and give it a read!

Jack has done this twice, both times I think his tush just itched, no poop, no smears and no anal gland issues. I think it was from his sanitary cut growing in.

Ahh, when Sunny was shaved down too close she did the same thing. I imagine that there must have been an ingrown hair or some itchiness from the hair growing back.
