Casey made the trip home like a seasoned traveler. We stopped about every 2 1/2 - 3 hours to walk him a bit. He peed quickly every time, then settled back into his crate with SnugglePuppy without a whimper. His dachshund siblings greeted him enthusiastically (and loudly) and he just joined in the excitement. After one last walk outside, he again settled into crate with SnugglePuppy and slept until 3 this morning for a quick walk outside before sleeping till breakfast time. BTW - for all who asked about SnugglePuppy - he LOVES it and does sleep all cuddled up with it as he would with a litter mate. His only problem so far is that he does NOT like that leash. He spends much of his potty walks trying to chew up the leash! When we aren't holding or walking him, he is in the sunroom with the dachshunds - but we set up the x-pen in the center of the room with a small bed, pee-pee pad and some chew toys. He and the doxies can rub noses and explore each other a bit unsupervised this way. He is doing so much better than expected for his first day home. It is love already. His weight this morning is 9.4 lbs at 8.5 weeks. Think he may be a bit smaller than we had hoped, but whatever he is, he is - we love him big or small. We are just thankful he have him. :). BTW - he didn't travel in my lap! Picture was taken on one of the stops before he went back into his crate.

Joyce, he is adorable and he looks like he was smiling on the way home:)  Sounds like he had a very good night and I'm sure with his siblings he will adjust very nicely!  Congratulations to all of you!

Ah Thanks - He was a happy boy. He had just finished a short walk where he conquered the mighty dandelion flower! He was SO pleased with himself.

Thanks for the update. I always love hearing how these little guys do as they transition to their forever homes. One suggestion might be to put the leash on him inside the house and let him walk around with it and get used to it. I'm sure there are many other suggestions in our training group. Good luck, he sure is a cutie.

Thanks for that suggestion. Will try it

Cute puppy!! Glad it went well--give him a small toy to carry and he won't chew on the leash--or get a harness so the leash is attached behind his mouth.

And if you can take him out often enough--every 1 hour or so--get rid of the puppy pad--better to go "cold turkey" as it is less confusing for the pup--this is what i suggest to my new puppy owners and so far, there have been few accidents--BUT you will need to watch the clock as he does not know how to ask to go out yet.

He is such a sweetie!  I'll try taking him out hourly and see how it goes. Yesterday we took him out about that often. He did well and usually peed while out, but once came back in - walking across the floor peeing all the way.  We expect a few accidents - and are thankful for ceramic tile floors!

Welcome home Casey!! So cute!
