Well Dakota can put another year of scary fire works behind her.At least this year she didnt pee all over herself.I can see and hear the fire works from my house so we watch them from my front door.Ozzy was never scared of anything. But Dakota hates any loud noises. She gets really scared. This year i tried holding her outside with me so we could watch them together.exposure therapy but it didnt work.I left the front door open and she squirmed out of my arms and ran into the house and hid under a table.I checked for pee and thankfully she didnt pee anywhere or on me.Other than loud noises she isnt scared of anything or anyone and is very outgoing. So it could be a lot worse.I just wanted her to enjoy the fireworks with me this year.Im sure others on here have doodles that are scared of fireworks, ect, ect?

Roo, as would be expected is impervious to fireworks.  Tigger on the other hand, for the first time, was really frightened.  Of course, they were very loud as they were in our back fence neighbor's yard.  Illegal, of course.  Tigger went into the room farthest from the noise and layed on his bed there.

Hoping that on the actual 4th of July there is no repeat performance from the neighbor's house as all the others will be much further away.  We live in a high fire area, about 2 miles from a State Park - which is very dry right now and fireworks are illegal in our immediate and surrounding cities

I would report the neighbor to the authorities due to the high risk of fire.

me too.

Me three. We have a statewide ban on fireworks this year due to extreme fire danger. The whole state is on fire anyways, but there still will be idiots shooting fireworks in their backyards. Some counties set up a hotline for reporting it.

They don't bother Murphy at all and Guinness used to be fine with them, but not lately.  We've had a few really bad storms that scared Guinness, and now any loud noise sends him running for cover.  He can still fit under the bed, so he's all set.

We had only had Ollie for a couple of weeks when the 4th rolled around last year and that point he was still afraid of us.  I have hopes that this year will be better for him, but I'll just have to wait and see.  DH is a little annoyed that I don't want to go to a friends party to watch the fireworks because I would rather stay home to see how Ollie does, but he will get over it  ;)   We were out for a walk last night and people where shooting them off from their yards. Ollie was ok at first but the more and more that he heard the faster he walked towards home.

The fireworks are right over Lake Michigan just off our balcony - last year Stuart was a baby and didn't seem to mind them at all.  Rooney was a wreck!  This year I am going to put both boys in the far bedroom, turn on the t.v. and give them with a shin bone. We'll have lots of company over to add to the drama so I'm hoping that by giving them a safe haven with some doggie distractions - that the fireworks won't bother them.  Crossing my fingers.

Spud had a front row seat last night and did fantastic. He does enjoy sky watching: airplanes, the neighborhood blimp, birds. There were even moments during the 1/2 hour show he looked somewhat bored. His favorites are the whistling fireworks. That perked him right up.
Odd, but people walking in the night around the car and down the street set him off a lot more.
Once the humans settled down to watch so did he.
All of you with dogs who are afraid and very disturbed by the fireworks, I believe are normal. I don't think Spud is normal to think nothing of the noise and enjoying the colorful displays.

Joanne, You can add Quincy to the not normal list, we were front and center last night for the fireworks, once he got bored with all the people around he went to sleep and slept through the whole thing. He as never shown any reaction to storms or fireworks but I swear he can hear a mouse walk across the back yard. If he has shown the slightest bit of discomfort we would have left but as long as he doesn't I figure exposure is good preventative measures.

Twins from a different mother- no mouse can walk in our yard either!

Darwin does fine with fireworks. I am usually more worried about him eating food off the grass at the carnival we go to every year. Funnel cakes and chips aren't good for his health I'm sure. LOL

The Doberman across the street had to be taken to the vet on many occasions because so would just freak- trashing crates, also chewing through doors, but the most severe was being stuck behind a toilet. She injured her back. This can be dangerous.
Oddly, she did better if they removed her from the house and allowed her to get air outside.
Yep, I think it is completely normal for a dog to want to get away from all this. My human sons hated fireworks. One still does
