Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Ok. The breeder emailed me the latest pic of the two males in the litter. She said they're both very similar in temperament at this point (but they're 4 weeks old so obviously a lot can change!). It's not the best pic, but I'd love to hear some thoughts as to what their coats could possibly look like! My "dream Doodle" is shaggy (not tight curls) with that shaggy face that is so cute. Any insight by you experts is appreciated! :)

And I apologize in advance--I cannot figure out how to inbed the pic?!

Very cute, both of them. The one on the right has a similar coat to Lucy's at that age (also an F1b, Labradoodle). She matured with a very wooly coat. Very poodle-like. You can check out her photos on my page. I have a couple of her at 3 weeks. My vote is to wait as long as the breeder allows before making a decision. Each week they change so much! 3 weeks is just too early, IMO. I picked Lucy out at 5 weeks old, or rather, changed my choice at 5 weeks. My breeder had everyone on her list pick out puppies at 3 weeks, and at a visit at 5 weeks Lucy and I made a real connection. At 3 weeks she had just wanted to get away from me! Luckily, she was still available (I later learned that a member here on DK was interested in Lucy, but at their visit to choose a puppy, Lucy acted the same way as she had with me so they chose another female. It all worked out in the end, but it was heartbreaking to make a change, even though I knew it was right. Good luck!

I also suggest to wait and meet them and see who you have a connection with. I know it feels overwhelming going in and you're worried whether you'll be able to make a decision, but sometimes the dogs make it easy for you. Orwell was rather shy as a young puppy, but he took to me right away for reasons I will never know. That being said, don't jump the gun too quick. I stayed with all of the puppies for an hour before I left with my final decision although it never wavered during the process. It is fun to play with every puppy together, after all (assuming you have one of the first picks). (:

Well, dad is NOT chocolate.  That is a beautiful red poodle!  For shaggy, I'd bet on the one of the left.

Deborah--you're right, of course. Dad IS red! Lol. Sorry.
And I'm kind of leaning towards the left one too at this point...for some reason I like that he seems "bored" by the camera. Lol.
My vote for looks only is the one on the left. He looks like he will be less curly. The one on the right looks like he will be very curly. I also prefer the more wavy look

Like others have suggested, wait as long as possible to choose.  I think the one on the right will be poodle-curly, so I would choose the one on the left as more likely to be shaggier.

The food on the right will be curliest than the one on the left.

Cute boys...

Our Kate has a wavy coat and although she sheds some it is very easy to maintain.  The dogs are a pretty color.  I always choose on personality but I do like the one on the left a lot.
