Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I'm researching everything I can find out about Labradoodles and have come across some very disturbing websites.  Vitriol, claims and counterclaims all revolving around Rutland Manors.  It's impossible to work out what is true and what is not but one thing for sure it's very off putting and more than a little concerning.  I'm in Ireland where there are no ALD breeders so I am on a wait list with what looks like a very reputable breeder  in Scotland but I can't help worrying. Any body got any thoughts on this?

The stories about the original breeders make any soap opera look simple. There are rumors and truth and lies , exaggeration galore so that it is all impossible to sort out. I have dogs descended from Rutland Manor-Tegan Park and they are wonderful, healthy dogs to date. I think you should read the guidelines here about what to look for in a breeder and go from there, putting the other nonsense aside. All of us here have doodles and love them.

F, I think the tough part is she is out of the USA and buying a dog from Scotland because she doesn't really live in a labradoodle mecca.  So choices aren't many without shipping from even farther.
True enough. I know that the UK has labradoodle breeders now as does the Netherlands but I don't know much more. Maybe some members here from the UK can help.

I can help. I have a list of reputable breeders in the Netherlands (as I am located there) and I can also direct Nicky to reputable breeders in the UK as I have contacts there as well.

Please drop me a note Nicky if you need more info.

Oh, I forgot about you being there. That's so good.
Thank you, I would appreciate a list of UK breeders that you have.
Nicky, my ALD will be 5 months tomorrow.  He is the most beautiful, loving, smart dog I have ever seen.  Work with a reputable breeder and then just enjoy your puppy.
Both of my ALD's are from the Australian lines, Tegan Park and Rutland manor, as are many of the Australian doodles in the US.  Beverly swears these allegations against her are not true, the other side swears they are. The father of one of my dogs came directly from Beverly.  My dogs were bred and tested in the US from Australian stock.  One is 3 and the other 9 months.  So far, so good.  A reputable breeder can tell you if there are any hereditary diseases in their lines (like heart murmurs, Addison's disease, etc), and will have tested their dogs for PRA, elbows and hip problems.  I wouldn't be too concerned about the controversy; be concerned about the breeding history and the breeder you plan to work with.
There are several DoodleKisses members from the UK.  Maybe they can help you find a breeder closer to you or at least give you some options.  Good luck.  Doodles are definitely worth the extra effort.

A great place to go for information in your area (if you haven't already) is the UK Labradoodle Association at http://www.labradoodle.org.uk/. Good luck!

Best wishes

Linny

Chester is out of a Tegan Park bred stud.  HIs offspring are healthy and he has tested negative for hereditary problems.

I'll just cross my fingers.  I have heard that Rutland/Tegan are VERY careful about their breeding choices.  Good luck finding an ALD across the pond!

I tried to understand this Aussie Doodle stuff and it has been a VERY hot topic around here with people for and against getting very vocal. I was at first interested in getting an Australian with manor or tegan links. I would stay away from anything to do with Bev or her daughter. As I think there is just too many questions with out clear answers.

I know that close to me there is a reputable breeder who has breeding stock from Bev. They are in her breeding program and live with her and are well and happy dogs. She has all the genetic testing done on all her breeding stock. So it is possible to have a dog with that blood line without dealing with any of the crap that they have been accused of and with out supporting Bev or her daughter if in fact the allegations of treatment are true.

I changed my mind on getting one because of the price. I researched for a couple of years and kept coming back to the Golden Doodle. we have an F1 dad was a cream poodle mom was a red golden retriever. He sheds very minimally. He is matting alot this winter. He just turned two. We keep him aunatural in coat. I did take the advice on the grooming group with some of the trimming of the bad matting areas. We love him. So no matter what you decide as long as you go by the recommended breeders checklist......or rescue any of the DK doods in need of a home.

Enjoy your new puppy
