Callie has her grooming appointment this week for her summer cut. She's miserably hot right now and barely wants to go outsite. I'm going have her taken down to 1", so she still has a little fluff to her.
I have an appt. Wednesday! My family does not want me to but I think he will be more comfortable. Thanks for your reply! Just making sure I was not the only one that would do this.
I know how you feel. We live in the south and its about 85-90 degrees most days. Its an absolute must to get their "summer do" as I call it. I don't like it because it totally changes the look of them, it takes a while to get used to because they look so totally different when you pick them up. It almost makes you think they gave you the wrong dog. The only thing I would do is tell them not to cut much around there face, sometimes they butcher the face area. I also recommend a 1" cut. Good luck! Please post pics of the new do.
Thanks! I will post pictures. I hope he doesn't look to bad.
I do the summer or puppy cut on all my dogs for the summer. It is not only cooler for them but they dry much faster from going in and out of the pool all day. I am sad to see the doodle look go but am happy that they are more comfortable.
I am also sad to see the doodle look go, but Coach loves the water too. Thanks for your reply! How short do you cut them?
My groomer calls it the puppy cut or summer cut. They are pretty much shaved, close and I leave the tail, ears and top of head a little longer.
We keep Yoda short for summer because he swims all the time and matts up quickly. In fact I just cut him down myself yesterday :) His hair grows so fast though, it won't stay short for long!
Coach likes to swim too. I'm glad to know someone else is cutting their doodles hair short. I know he will feel better! How short do you cut Yoda?
We cut both of our doodles really short for the summer (down to 1/4 inch). They are so hot in the summer and we take them to the beach a lot (Dexter loves to swim) so it really is the most practical cut for us.
thanks for your reply! It is very useful!
My suggestion? Don't try to hand scissor unless you have practiced. :-) My pup turned out pretty bad, as I tried it myself without any kind of practice. But if you do take them to the groomers to get it done, you can have them cut down to 1 1/2" or 2", then they are cooler and easier to maintain, but still keep that doodle look!
