Riley has been adjusting really well....  has not  whined at all! She loVES playing with all of her toys and George. Last  night she woke up at 12 am to go potty. I took her out and she went back  to bed no problem. Then at 5 am she woke up. I took her back out.  Well... this time she was ready for full play mode. I was not... I put  her back in her crate and she barked/whine for TWO HOURS straight until  my boyfriend got home from work around 7!!! I know I had to let her  bark, but will she eventually learn, "oh well guess I have to go back to  bed???"

Later in the day I had a family emergency come up and had to leave  her in her crate for the first time alone. She was in her crate from  6-9:15. When I got home there was a poop disaster in her crate, all over  her blanket and toy!!! Im a little concerned because when I go back to  work on Wednesday she will be in her crate for 3 hours most days.... I  hope she can start holding it better!!!

UPDATE: She woke me up at 3 am now for which i thought she would have to go outside and she had already pooped in her cage again! I made her crate even smaller... and took the blanket out for now. SIGH.

On another subject... I hope this doesnt gross anyone out, BUT...  everytime riley goes poop I have had to wipe her butt!! I am guessing  because her stool is loose it is sticking to her fur. Anyone else have  this problem? I never thought ever that I would be wiping a dogs butt  before. Is this normal?

Thanks!

These suggestions are all great, but don't address that she has to go poop in the night.  I would feed her a little earlier in the evening to see if that at least helps when she needs to go.
Guilty!
Yes, I wipe Lola's bum everyday. No poop is perfectly clean with zero residue, so we like to keep her clean!!! We have some great wipes, and it takes 2 seconds to do!

As for wiping, I wipe my Charlie's bottom with a baby wipe every time he poops.  He has had problems with his anal glands in the past and this seems to help for some reason, along with me just knowing that there won't be anything left behind.

As for the pooping in the crate....my daughter just got a puppy and had the same problem with both pooping and peeing.  She took the blanket out of the crate and just used plastic toys when she left her or at night.  It didn't bother her to sleep on the plastic bottom of the crate.  She caught on very quickly after that for some reason.  Rarely she will still have an accident in her crate but usually only when they are in an unfamiliar environment (like when she took her to visit her boyfriend's parents and she was stressed from the long trip) but not during her regular routine anymore.  Good luck!!

I've found the "sanitary trim" really helps my guys, but occasionally I still notice a little bit of poop that has to be cleaned off.  Just another one of the joys of being a Doodle Mom.

Haven't had to wipe a puppy butt yet......Butt (pun intended) as far as crate training and crying goes.  We had the same prob with Bailey crying when we put her in her crate.  I did what others here suggested and she hasn't cried since.  It may sound kind of mean but it works...

When your little pup barks go to her crate and hit the top of the crate and say "quiet" in a stern voice and walk away...repeat until she gets the hint.  She will associate her bang of the crate and your "quiet" with her bark...I know it sounds mean but it only took Bailey 2 times to get the hint.....

Give it a try, what do you have to lose...other than sleep : )

Thats a great suggestion! I will definitely try that, thankyou!

This question cracked me up!  I used to wipe Dexter's butt with baby wipes & then I bought those doggie tushee wipes that Dori showed you a picture of.  I keep them right by the back door (and also take them with me when we go somewhere).  When Bexter had giardia, I started wiping his butt.  By the time he was rid of the giardia, we were already used to it so I did it for a while anyway (plus his stools were still a little loose).  Once they firmed up, I stopped worrying about it.

Oh - and I should add that Bexter has so much hair that I didn't even know where in the world his b******* even was for a while, so I took some scissors & I groomed the area myself.  Made me proud that I did my own dirty work (so to speak).  MUCH BETTER!  Keep her groomed down there.

Uh, no way!  Did that for too many years with babies.  Life with a dog is not supposed to be .......... this difficult.  Sanitary cuts do work great.  Good luck.
Yes they do. Also, good food. I rarely ever am reduced to this : )
I LOL's at the title of this post. Definitely make sure she is shaved back there. We have only had to wipe Darwin's butt a few times, but I'm definitely not a fan. :-)

LOL at the title! Before my groomers ever told me about the sanitary clip, Hercules used to get poop stuck all over his butt and he had so much hair that I rarely saw it until it had dried. There was no "wiping" to it - I had to hose it off and most times, put on a glove and smush the dookie as I pulled it from his hair. Now he not only gets a sanitary clip, but I also keep him trimmed shorter than the Shaggy D.A. and no more dookie dingleberries, thank goodness.

I hope your new puppy starts cooperating with you, Amanda. With Zeus, I just sweet-talked to him and said, "Go nite-nite, baby. Mommy sleepy. Sweet dreams." That actually worked and he stopped immediately. Either I'm just lucky, or my kid prefers the more gentle approach.
