My dogs do not pee on walks. I worked really hard with my beagles to train this, but it seems like my doods have gotten this from the get go. Before walk they go potty in the backyard. When they sniff they do not mark. I always bring a poopy bag because accidents can happen, but that is rare as well.

Our house is right by the community mail box for my street. I'm amazed at how many people let their dogs pee on our grass when they come to get their mail. I would not let my dog do that, maybe that's why I'd rather not have my dog peeing on walks.

Or maybe I'm just weird.

I too prefer my pups not pee on walks, but only because I hate the constant stop and mark thing. When I walk, I walk.

I usually walk in the street (facing traffic, with dogs to the outer side away from traffic).  This way they really don't have anything to sniff.

This is really the main reason I am not waiting more than 6 months to "fix" Hoka.  I want to take no chances on starting the whole marking territory thing.  Tinker, who had pediatric neutering never, ever marked.  Hoka has had 2 reprieves so far, once for getting a parasite let month and once now because our vet had a family emergency out of town.  Hopefully next week!

My Wally was neutered early before leaving the breeder, and he definitely enjoys peeing while we're out on walks If your primary reason for neutering Hoka soon is to deter this behavior, I'd say to wait until you and your vet decide that the time is right, and that the idea of avoiding marking shouldn't be your sole motivation.

Ruston never goes potty anywhere but home in the backyard. She won't even go in the front yard here. I never trained her to do this. For her I think it has to do with her anxiety issues and the world is a big scary place to her. I do carry poop bags when we go anywhere just in case.

My girls don't pee on walks.  Meg won't even go when we travel, if it is an overnight trip I get up multiple times at night because I know she has to go sometime and finally we get some relief.  When I travel the nine hours to my daughter's she just does not go no matter how many times I stop but takes advantage of my daughter's yard once we get there.  Polly does not pee on a walk but if we take advantage of the ball park to play Frisbee she generally only makes a couple runs before she has to poop, carrying bags is a necessity because of that.

My old Golden would do this....no matter how long the walk...he waited until we got home. Served us well, as I hate the constant stopping and sniffing.
With Enzo, it just depends how long the walk. If it's just a neighborhood walk, she'll wait. If we're out for the day, eventually, she'll give in to the urge. But it's always on, on, near bushes. She NOT a public pee'er! Must hide it!

Lily rarely will pee on a walk. I always carry poop bags but hardly ever need them. Except when I take her on a run, she ALWAYS poops on a run. I think its her way of telling me this was nice, but I prefer walking (because I will not run holding a poop bag LOL). I did teach her to go potty on command. It is helpful it we are out of town or are going on a long car ride. If I say we are going for a long car ride go potty, she almost always does. Probably because one time we had to stop on the side of the road for her to go number two. She was not a fan of cars going by while she was doing her business!

I'm trying to train Riley to go before we leave or when we get back. I feel really bad leaving burn marks in other people's yards. If she does go, I try to have her go on the street side of the sidewalk and in an empty lot if possible.
This is interesting to me.... My Shelby pees on our walks, and I've never thought of trying to train it out of her. She does not have urine that leaves burn marks in the grass, so I guess I never really thought about it. She does mark several times on our walk, but it doesn't bother me to have her stop and smell/pee. Our walks together are for her enjoyment/exercise... I get mine on my own.

Trav almost always pees on walks.  He has started lifting his leg fairly consistently, and any tree, bush, rock, etc., is just fine for pee.  He wants to poo on grass, which is also a favorite for stretching-out pee posture.  I sort of rationalize the pee by telling myself that there's a lot of rain, so it washes away.  Justification rocks!  lol

Charlie started lifting his leg at 2 years old.  Up until then he did not pee on walks.  Now, there are certain large rocks along our walk that he thinks were made for him. LOL.

Ours do pee on walks because we camp in an RV and the dogs MUST pee and poo on-leash at those times, however when we are casually walking with them, they rarely do.  Somehow, for the most part, they seem to know the difference.  Mine mark - only Clancy lifts his leg, but they only do this if we 'pause' in the walk.

All of my dogs have/do pee on walks, but it's not something I've ever had a problem with.  Our old border collie Cass walked leash free and she marked constantly but it didn't matter because she would either walk way ahead or catch up with you so she didn't slow anyone down (she was perfectly obedient, not something I'd allow my current dogs to do).  Thule walked and pooped like a horse.  If she had to go, she was committed enough to 'heel' that she didn't break or pull away, she would just poop as she walked.

Boca rarely goes on leash.
Rosco happily goes on or off leash.  But I trained him to do so and I knew his 'times' so that whenever we traveled it was easy to get him to go.  He is the most likely to mark but I don't let him stop and do his thing on walks so he only goes if I release him from walking politely.
