Every night around 5:00 Lily stands by the front window waiting for her Daddy. I just love this and so does DH!

yep, Monty knows. On a typical work day, when we come downstairs in the morning, Monty knows, I feed him, let him out. On a weekend he comes down and waits by the door so that I will take him up to to fetch the paper (on week days DH has always brought it in) When we go to work he lays on the floor and will not look at us when we say good bye. Very smart dood.
They sure are smart!
On week days he will also move and wait at the door that adjoins the garage. when I pull my car in, he starts to jump up to see out the window into the garage, he does that for DH too, that arrives before me. When I am home before DH, I have watched Monty move and wait by that door at the garage, jumping up when the garage door opens.
Yes! They know wake up time and feeding times. They also know in the afternoon if my DH calls my cell phone, it means he will be home shortly and they run to the window!
Oh, yes, definitely--especially Mattie--she knows just about every routine i have--including my bedtime (She is the only dog who comes upstairs at night, so she looks forward to it. Age has its privileges.) She will start getting antsy when I am supposed to be going to bed, and once I get up of the couch to go brush my teeth, she gets so excited. She nags me by poking me in the leg with her nose if she knows I am late to do something. I usually feed the dogs first in the morning, then she starts to nag me to feed the cats--then to make my breakfast, etc. (very annoying!) But I guess i can thank her for keeping me on schedule!!
Im not sure if Bailey understands time but I think she gets "routine". Working shift work I have a routine of working so many days a month and so many nights, but its not monday-friday. She knows when Im working nights, I dont get out of my pj's all day and she will sleep with me in the bedroom without any fuss. When Im working days, she drags herself out of bed early, goes pee, eats breakfast, and runs back to the bedroom to sleep. Its really neat to see how in-tune she has become with us already!
At ten past five, Gavin asks to go outside so that he can stand at the fence and look down the driveway waiting for his dad. I have not figured out how to tell him when DH is working late :(
You almost feel sorry for them when they expect somone and they are late!
Phoebe definitely knows how to tell time. When my daughter has her piano lesson, Phoebe not only starts to pace near the window before her instructor arrives but she 'knows' when it is over, too--she starts to whine at the half hour mark even if the instructor is going overtime. She also knows when her dinnertime is and she will drive me crazy until I feed her. The list goes on but the bottomline is, she really knows how to 'tell' time.
Phoebe sings too, now that's talent!
