I am wondering if anybody has a recommendation for dog car harnesses. I read a story recently where a family got in a car accident, and without the harness, their dog would have gone trough the windshield. I am on the road a lot, and Dolly loves to ride with me and hang out in the car while I run errands, so I want her to be completely safe in case anything were ever to happen. Any tips for how to convince them the harness is good rather than evil would be great too! Dolly can chew her way out of just about anything, so hopefully we can avoid that! :)
Thanks!

Hi Rachel, here is what we use for Daisy. She at first didn't really like it but since we are in the car everyday she got used to it very fast...maybe 2 weeks.

Hey Lisa/Rachel... I purchased a car harness for Sasha when I first got her when she was a puppy.  She absolutely freaked out.  Buy the time we got down to the end of the block she was all tied up in a knot,  I had to pull over and untangle her, I tried about 4 times after that with the same results.  Sasha and Oliver can both chew thru anything in sections which is why I never tried using a harness again.  I'm do not travel that much with the doodles but we do go out to visit and go to the park.  I always worry about what would happen if I get into a accident :(    I have a SUV, Sasha sits in the front with me and Ollie is in the back, both dogs are free to roam the car as we drive.  I know this is not good but I know they would just chew thru a harness... aaarrrrgggghhhh.  Lisa... any tips on getting them use to the harness? or is it just persistance !!!

First and foremost Daisy is a VERY calm dog....she never "freaks out", her approach was to look miserable to try and make me feel bad - it worked but I did not give in, now it's just a matter of fact.

I would love to have her sitting next to me but when she was around 8 months old she was in the back of my SUV and I had to stop, not too suddenly and was not going fast but that 45# girl came flying over the seat to nearly the front, it freaked me out enough to take action.

Sasha is very skidish and Oliver is a pretty calm dog but likes his freedom.   I am going to get them harnesses because I am so afriad of something bad happening if I am ever in a accident.  I will insist for their safety.

Thanks for posting this link Lisa. I usually use Gus and Lillys regular harnesses, but really like the look of these. Here's how our two now ride in the back of our new Ford Edge.

Rooney travels in his American Tourister harness, strapped into a doggie car seat so that he can see out the window (I do not drive with the window down).  He has never chewed it and doesn't seem to mind.  Stuart is big enough that I use the seatbelt with a regular harness but before our next big road trip I'm going to upgrade him to the American Tourister too.  They are sold at Petco or Petsmart take your doodle with you to ensure a proper fit.

You little poop you Stewart! Daisy say's "I want a car bed" ha ha.

Oh how cute your are Rooney !!!

Great picture Rooney!!!

Same one as us. Rooney couldn't be cuter!

Make sure you buy one that is safety tested - alot out there arent, and may rip if you are in a big accident. I use Kurgo, it is safety tested and comes in several colours. you can get just a harness or a harness and zip line. though Cooper can still get to both sides of the back seat with just the harness

I like this one.  Would it work for 2 dogs in the backseat?  Both of them with their own zip-line?
