I was watching Animal Planet on Christmas and they did a pet gifts special.  One of the things they had was shaped like a big paw, you hooked it up to the hose, and when your dog stepped on it it shot water up so they could drink it.  I didn't get the name of it and I can't find it anywhere.  Does anybody have any idea what it is or what it's called?  It was very cool.

Nevermind.  Wouldn't you know it, I just found it!

Anyone interested here's a link:

doggie fountain

that looks great! Perfect for summer, chilling in the yard - me with a glass of wine, DH with a bottle of beer, and cool fresh water for Cooper!

(I know Coop would love it, she always tries to drink from the hose when I water the flowers and veggies)

Im going to ask my reps at work, see if they sell anything like this!!!!

There is a tap adaptor for the outside tap that the dog can go get a drink whenever they want.  I do think that there is some on snell gun dog supply website. There are also the pet fountains that basically run water from the bottom up through a filter  that cleans the tap water and water continually flows so they can lick it. It works great for cats I don't know about dogs though. The dish doesn't look like it holds alot of water.

This is really cool.  My dog would love it.

I do wonder though, would this cause the dog to suck more air in and maybe increase the risk of bloat?

Most garden hoses have warnings about drinking from them. I assume this would be true for dogs as well as people.
Now that is silly. Why would it have such a warning? How does everyone fill outdoor water buckets?

I think it must have to do with whatever the hose is made of and they do bake in the sun. There are special hoses made for drinking I believe. I fill my dogs outdoor bowl from the faucet or let them drink directly from there. I personally never drink from a bucket : ) But you know me, I'll do some more research. TG for Google.

Here's the first problem--lead.

Here's the next problem--cross contamination.

Ok, I'm convinced and won't look further.  I don't think I have to worry about the latter since I have my own well.

Ours isn't the typical 'green' type of hose.  It's a thick black rubber hose.

Apparently the safe hoses are generally white, sometimes blue but they must be marked as potable water hoses, which, believe it or not are FDA approved. Then the fittings, washers etc. need to also be for drinking water purposes. Here is an example of such a hose:

Oh, Adina you opened a can of water or maybe I did : )

Well it won't matter for MY drinking because I wouldn't drink out of anything that sat on my lawn and possibly got peed on now and then.  But don't really want to be serving my dogs lead-laden water either.
I agree. It's no big deal to water them from a faucet I think. So you have to turn it on or clean a bowl occasionally. Plus if the hose is sitting in the sun, the first gush of water is blazing hot and this fountain that they operate themselves would douse them in hot water.
That is awesome!
