Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I'm at obedience class with Gracie my Frenchie. It is a very small class - three students - Gracie, Mesa a Jack Russell Terrier and Zoey a Poodle. Zoey's mom is a groomer and at the last class I asked her to bring in her business card because I have not yet located a groomer for Zach and her poodle was wonderfully groomed.

So.... we are in class today, and we had an assignment to learn a bit about our breed to share with the class. I tell the class about the interesting history of French bullldogs and their wonderful personality and then Zoey's mom shares a bit about Poodles and closes by saying that she thinks it is an atrocity that poodles are being bred with labs, they end up in shelters and they all have ADD.

I looked at her and I said, really, I have a doodle, he is hands down the smartest dog I have ever owned. How does the existance of my dog harm you as a poodle owner? ....crickets

Fast forward to the end of class - she tries to hand me her business card and I told her, no thanks, but I don't want my dog groomed by some one who thinks that his existance is an atrocity.

I don't get this hatred of doodles by some members of the Poodle community? If you don't want one don't get one and don't let your poodle participate in a breeding program. I am missing how poodles as a breed are harmed by the existence of doodles.

UPDATE: Just an update - we went back to class and Zoey the Poodle and her mom were not there - no show no call - I wonder if it was something I said!

My Gracie as it turns out is a bit of brown nose and does much better in class than at home, and really performs when the trainer is watching her - stinker! We train at a service dog training center so there are lots of props and crates . During play time, she was sniffing around and she peed in a dog crate - so she went from being "teacher's pet" to the "dog house" in one one-hour class!

Thanks so much for all your support last week - not only do doodles rule - those that they own do too!

Good for you! No need to patronize someone like that.
I love how you turned that around on her. I had my first Labradoodle in a Basic Obedience class and the teacher went off on how it was such a bad idea to breed these two high energy dogs and boy was I in for trouble. It made me so mad and I worked very hard and by the end of the class she said I had the best Labradoodle she had seen. I never went back. There are out of control dogs in every breed.
Sounds like you put her in her place...Down with Doodle haters!!!

Way to go Cindy!! You handled it just right!!

I wish I had an answer to your question about doodle hating poodle owners!! I don't get it either. They are SO hostile about it!

Actually is isn't poodle  specific.  If you listen to any 'pure breed' breeders, you will hear this.  It is a shame that we can't all get along even if we don't all carry identical lunch boxes.
You just reminded me of a time when Tara was tiny and I had to "go the rounds" with the owner of a Newfoundland!! She was rude!!  You're right it isn't just poodle owners. Oh, and one time Tara got the snub from a LABRADOODLE owner because she is a MINI!!! Yes!!!  She apparently didn't know there was such a "thing". But it was more the way she said it...emphasis on THING! Grrrr....
Cindy, I bet you shocked the heck out of her when you said you had a doodle. I would have loved to see her face. Tonight, you are my hero!! You go, girl!!!
Good for you for standing up for yourself.

I know how you feel - when I worked in the pet food store I had people diss my choice in "breed" (labradoodle, obviously, and a lynx siamese - which is a  siamese mixed with a tabby cat to create a "white tiger" effect - who is a rescue so therefore not a designer breed). I had to bite my tongue or I would have got fired.

I also had the husband of my Mums co-worker (who I have known since I was small) diss my "ridiculously expensive designer mutt" at MY WEDDING RECEPTION - they have spaniel working dogs who live outside and go on hunts with them.

There are certain breeds I hate and cannot understand why someone would want them, but i would never say that to them. Who am I to say who/what another person can love??????

OMD Cindy, I like how quick you are on your feet. I would have been so angry, good for you for being level headed and witty.

I would have loved to have seen her face!

Good for you for responding so sharply. I would have been tongue tied. What a jerk!
Good for you! My Caseydoodle is a very smart dog just like all the other doodles on doodlekisses. She thinks that her dog is just the best dog in the world.
